July 31, 201016 yr What about trading Leo? We could probably get an absurd haul for him. And we do have several plus arms coming up in the next 2 years to soften the blow of losing him. Plus he frees up more salary if he's gone. And his value has to be really high right now. If they're seeking relief help, trading Leo is the complete opposite. There's also no reason to trade Leo now I guess, since he's under team control next year. This is why part of me wishes they'd lost 4 out of the last 5............. I think we should be acquiring for next year, not shipping things off. I certainly wouldn't advocate moving him for guys in A-ball only, but for guys in AA/AAA right now who could contribute next year.....we might get someone to grossly overpay. [Hensley, Ceda, Badenhop, RVH, Tucker/Marinez/Veras/Sanches, LOOGY, ??] has the making of a pretty good bullpen. If we could acquire guys to fill 1 or 2 of those BP spots and/or maybe a starter with some potential, then I think it could be a positive trade for us.

Out of the guys you mentioned: Ceda is unproven. Very good prospect, but only a prospect. I think Hopper will do better next year, but it's no sure thing; he's struggled this year, and he's really a nice long reliever to have. Not a backend of the bullpen type guy. RVH has been inconsistent in AAA. Who knows with him? Tucker I'm no longer too confident in. Marinez = read Ceda. Veras had a nice stretch but he went back to his inconsistent ways recently. Jose Veras is Jose Veras. Meh. Sanches has been nice for us getting outs the past couple of years, but you never really know when the luck is going to run out with him. He's nice to have, but for some reason, I can never truly count on him. My point here is that we've had 2 relievers who have just been very good. Consistent, and no luck needed to show that they're good. Those 2 guys to count on for next year are Leo Nunez and Clay Hensley. If the team falls out of contention next year, they can still trade those two guys next year for what you're saying. Right now though, I don't think they should trade Leo (might sound weird coming from me...you know my opinion on closers). Leo, though, has changed a lot this year, and he's just been really good. He has the stuff where you would think he's not going to get worse next year or anything (advanced statistics this year support that line of thinking as well). Next year you build around Leo and Hensley. If 1 or 2 of Ceda/Marinez/Jennings pan out (or heck all 3, how great would that be?), you've got a deep bullpen. That's what we should be aiming for. Nunez is far and away the best arm in our pen. Despite the fact that he's pricey for a Marlins reliever, you're not going to find too many relievers (specifically with closers' experience...which we all know GM's value) at Leo's pricetag who are better than Leo. There's no need to sell high on him now. All the guys you mentioned have some sort of potential, but for all we know they might just all be busts next year. Leo, at least, is a sure thing.
July 31, 201016 yr League would be a 7th/8th inning guy, who would upgrade our bullpen. The cons, however, are that he struggles against left-handed hitters, and his K/9 has gone down this year, for some reason. He does have electric stuff, though. I don't think I want him because I'm sure we'd have to give up something very good to get him (in which case I'd rather go after the Breslow's of the world). He would definitely upgrade the pen though, and he wouldn't be a rental, either.

July 31, 201016 yr i really have no interest whatsoever in giving up leo. he needs to be here whther as a closer or a dominant set u man. dont care if he goes to arbitration, he has dominant stuff and he's young.
