John Buck/Carl Pavano

So AJ or Buck?

Neither? I guess if I had to choose, I'd go with Buck. At least he isn't a Type A free agent/has some power in his bat.

I'm trying to look for positives with Buck.. as it is pretty difficult... but at least only 47 men tried to steal on him. So to me, that says that teams weren't game-planning to run all over him... so that may not be a glaring weakness.

Rotoworld is guessing near 20 mil.. oh my

3 years whaaaaaaat?!?!?! Guess that suggests low confidence in Skipworth and his development.

Rotoworld are idiots. If it's 3 years/20 million, I'm going to poop a cement brick.

:lol

I will snap if we pay him near 20 million over 3 years. I was expecting something like 12-15 million.

yea wow for a team that doesnt want to give dan uggla a 5th year they want to give john buck 3 years is that a joke.

arent we supposed to be happy about the marlins spending.

Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reports it'll be worth over $15 million

That's a bit more reasonable; I hope there are some incentives if he's going to get over $15 million.

All I've wanted for years was for them to throw some cash at a free agent, and yet here I am, making this face :mis2

So say the offer was 3 years, $20m for Buck, would that money not be spent better on say 2 years, $20m for Pavano. Obviously there is an injury risk with him, but I think he would offer us a lot more than Buck.

Why in the world would the Marlins do this?

This guy is a career .243, this some bullsh*t!!

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Marlins are “close to signing John Buck to a three-year contract believed to be worth more than $15 million, which is pretty remarkable for a catcher who was available to the Blue Jays for a one-year, $2 million deal last offseason.

Buck obviously boosted his value significantly with a career-year, hitting .281 with 20 homers and an .802 OPS in 118 games, but there’s little reason to think he’s capable of duplicating those numbers again consistently.

He’s always had 20-homer power, but prior to this season Buck was a career .235 hitter with a lowly .298 on-base percentage and .407 slugging percentage in 2,116 plate appearances. And while posting career-best numbers at age 29 he also had the worst strikeout-to-walk ratio in all of baseball at 111-to-16.

Buck is a solid enough catcher, but by giving him a three-year contract the Marlins are clearly paying for a repeat of 2010 and the odds are stacked against that happening.

ummm that sounds quite true and if we sign him that shitbrick better have an even better year.

I just realized he's averaged a 1 WAR over a 7 year career. He's only been a positive batter twice, and one of those years he was worth .1 runs batting
