Has the team said anything on brining him back?

he would definitely be a good arm to have.

Average at best, and no longer needed.

The only way he comes back is on a minor league deal, and that's not happening because he had a decent year, last year.

I don't even know why you'd want him back, honestly. Where would he fit in?

hes a good arm to have and did well in pressure situations so i dont see why having another arm like that would hurt.

maybe as a 7th inning guy and i dont see mujica being a go to guy just yet.

i think a bullpen of badenhop, hensley, nunez, sanches, webb, dunn, mujica, and veras is pretty damn good.

1. That's 8 bullpen guys; normally, teams carry 7. If the team goes with your scenario, they'd be dealing with a short bench.

2. Mujica>Veras

3. That's way too much money on the bullpen; it would also pretty much eliminate the chance of getting a SP like Javy Vazquez to help solidify the rotation, next year.

Veras is absolutely not coming back next year.

oh whoops i didnt see that was 8 i thought that was 7 lol.

Based on his 2nd half last year, Veras would be a decent guy to have in our pen only if we hadnt already gone out and revamped our pen. The restructuring of our bullpen for 2011 means bringing in new but established faces while only keeping our very best from last year, thus eliminating any guys who were just ok last year. And that would be keeping Nunez, Hensley, Sanches, and possibly Hopper, while losing Veras.

I keep saying this, but it is all about guaranteed money.

Hensley and Mujica we can't avoid, they are on payroll no matter what.

Webb, Sanches, and Dunn, all won't have guaranteed deals and options (Sanches does not), so the Marlins are not on the hook for cash if they stink, i.e. the volatile nature of relievers year to year

Nunez, Veras, and Hopper, all fall into the guaranteed money category. If we keep them, we are going to pay them no matter if they are good or crash and burn, see again volatile nature of relievers year to year. Nunez would be really nice to keep if he can fit into payroll, as we'd have a really killer 1-5 right handers in the pen, but the other two are, at best, our 5th best right handers in the organization right now, and the difference between 5th best, and say 11th (someone like Cishek) is probably very low to pay them guaranteed bucks. See again, volatile nature of relievers year to year and we really have no idea who is going to be the best reliever from the assortment of maybes we have. And we have a lot of maybes (Sanches, Veras, Hopper, Mharinez, Ceda, Cishek, MILB veterans brought into camp).

The bullpen outlook is so easy

Locks - Hensley, Webb, Mujica, Sanches, Dunn, and we need one more right hander, one more left hander

Right handers - Nunez (if kept lock obviously), Mharinez, Ceda, Cishek, Sanabia, Koehler, and minor league veteran players

Left Handers - Possibility of signing a real veteran, like Ohman, in free agency, West, minor league veteran players, Richardson, Jennings

That's the depth chart. Personally, I'd move Nunez for whatever you can get, let the right handers fight for that 5th slot and really have the best minor league veteran take this slot (I'd offer Veras and Badenhop minor league contracts as a side note, which is probably all they would get in free agency anyways), and sign Ohman to a 1 year deal. Let Sanabia, West, and Koehler start in AAA, with all the kids in the AAA bullpen. At some point, someone will emerge from this group and the back of the pen will shape itself.

This is going to be a good bullpen. Webb, Mujica, and Dunn are an easy 175 innings, and we have a ton of good projectable arms in AAA. A veteran lefty is really the only notable thing missing here. It's not Veras. It's not Badenhop.

Koehler's left-handed.

Aside from that, I absolutely agree with this post.

I also think, based on his minor league numbers, that Garate (recent minor league signing) can be included with the likes of Richardson/Jennings, in terms of left-handed minor league depth. His K/9 are extremely impressive.

Nope, righty.

if we can get Veras to come back on a minor league deal its deffinately worth it, who knows. injuries occur in spring training so it always good to have depth on the roster and he had a decent year with us.

Or have Erick convince everyone that Veras is left handed and then he'd fit right into a bullpen slot.

lol true, but Erick also brought up a good option in George Sherill. In a perfect world, his value drops and all he can get is a minor league deal and thats where we come to the rescue!

For some odd reason, I actually thought he was left-handed. I guess I've been looking like a dumbass everytime I bring Koehler up in a thread, lately. :(

Sherrill would be awesome!

oh no doubt, though i think Sherill gets look at once we access whats going on with Ohman.

Resigning Ohman would probably put us over or around 60M payroll (using Lou's numbers.) I think we look at Sherill before Ohman because he might take a minor league deal.

Ok fine, but can we please get someone like Bonifacio to steal Sherrill's cap and just bend the s*** out of the brim? I absolutely hate how his cap looks!

Marlins still need a lefty reliever because Dunn has had a very limited ML career with very poor control.

He may turn out to be great but the odds are not terrific.
