New Jersey Numbers

If you're like my grandfather, you need numbers, as well. "El numero cincuenti-cinco es un caballo."

I totally don't get that joke but I know that el numbero cuarenti cinco es El Caballo.

#55 (Josh Johnson) is a horse.

I find it sad that I speak like your grandfather, but in English.

:lol

And why does it matter that Marshall wears 19 or Booth wears 10?

I have no idea what it has to do with ego.

And how the would I know if he was in the starting lineup if I get to the game at 7:10?

I really have no idea what you're going on about here.

There are 12 forwards on a given roster and 5 WRs. In fast pace games, it is pretty much required that there be a number in order to identify a player, which is why it is very important for a number to stay constant.

Yeah, it's subjective, I know. You're the one taking a direction with it, going on about it, not me.

And if you got to the game at 7:10, who's fault is that?

Noo ne's? It's not a fault thing, there's no fault.

I really don't know what's happening here.

... what?

You dont know what's happening here. Now neither do I.

That's Latin.

Why do numbers even matter in baseball?

Why do numbers matter in any sport?

Never understood (unless they were a player/manager) why managers wore numbers.

Why does Gaby have to change numbers for Buck?

Because Gaby is the "odd man out" and will probably be traded before spring training.

Totally doubt it. Apparently they want to keep his bat and let Hill work some IF magic. I'm interested to see how that works out. Also interested to see how LoMo progresses in LF. But if Cogs isn't working out in CF during ST then all bets are off.

So do the coaches. Saw an explanation of that once, but can't exactly remember what it was or where I read it. I think it was something about at one time in the history of baseball they could actually put themselves into games. Dosen't sound right now, but I think that's what I read.

I'm guessing he doesn't have to.. he's probably just doing it out of respect.

I guess whoever told me that must have been misinformed then.

Yeah it comes from managers once being able to put themselves in games so they wore a number just in case that happened. And its basically just a tradition that hasnt been broken since then. And thats clearly why they still wear jerseys as well.

Yea I figured that was the reason. Back then, were they on the roster? Obviously they aren't now, so it really doesn't make sense anymore. Just tradition I guess. I think they should drop numbers all together, perhaps use lettering instead. Maybe they can be totally radical and get out of the uniform. Some do sorta right now, Francona, Torre and others wear the light windbreaker pullover, pants and the cap. I'm pretty sure they don't wear a jersey underneath it.

In other Jersey Number news...

Junior 3rd Baseman/Pitcher from Cypress Bay High School Danny Perez has elected to maintain his number 6 which he's worn his past two years at "The Bay".

Rumors were flying that the 2nd year letterman would change his number from 6 to 1 but those have been recently shut down.

Yeah, and it becomes authentic if you wear it while sitting on the bench.
