Posted June 19, 201113 yr It's nice to watch him dominate at times, but you're not allowed to absolutely suck for a good month every year. A couple of years when it looks like you have bad luck, and we can believe you'll turn it around. Now four years of underachieving based on peripherals, and I'd say it's a case of: "You're just really inconsistent, buddy." Unfortunately, we have to keep you and your inconsistent ways for $9 million per for the next couple of years. Even if we wanted to get rid of you, we probably can't, considering that you're still better than most of the pitchers on the free agent market next year. Not to mention our great SP depth in the minor leagues...*sigh*
June 19, 201113 yr Author If only somebody could've predicted this back in...say, 2008? Well, some people haven't liked him for awhile. I still thought he'd be our #2 this year because I figured that he truly dominates sometimes, and his peripherals suggest that he's much better than what he's been every single year. What's happened, however, is that Anibal Sanchez has become a true model of consistently good pitching and Ricky Nolasco is still the same Ricky Nolasco. Mr. I'll punch you out every time one month, and then Mr. I'm gonna throw batting practice the next month. I now wish Anibal would steal his money.
June 19, 201113 yr Lol, Ricky Nolasco's last 5 starts: 8.20 ERA over 26 1/3 innings. Opponents hitting .371 off him during the stretch.
June 19, 201113 yr Well until there is someone to replace or anyone can conjour up a way to pay that someone, I think he'll be okay. A J Burnett sucks for at least a month every season and yet he still keeps going out there, why because the Yanks don't have someone better to replace him with.

June 19, 201113 yr I'm not a Nolasco hater, but I've been pretty down on him for awhile. I wasn't too enthusiastic about extending his contract for that much money. He's too inconsistent and that high flyball rate makes it hard for him to keep his ERA below 4.00.
June 19, 201113 yr I just don't care anymore. They all suck, and on the off chance that many of them don't on a particular night, there's going to be some weak link in the chain that blows it for everyone.
June 19, 201113 yr I just... I don't... What.... I don't even know where to begin. I'm sorry, I've made my case on Ricky for a long time right now. Both previous to the off-season on how he's lack of consistency negates his good games and the fact that a volatile pitcher shouldn't have gotten a contract like that. I mean... really?

I totally agree with you. I don't hate Ricky but I knew he wasn't worth what the Marlins gave him. He's Jekyl and Hyde and unfortunately we are getting Hyde right now.
June 19, 201113 yr Who would you rather see out there, some minor league scrub who doesn't belong in the majors? Another Javy Vazquez?
June 19, 201113 yr We don't have any better options, I feel your pain, he will come back around in July. :lol
June 20, 201113 yr Who would you rather see out there, some minor league scrub who doesn't belong in the majors? Another Javy Vazquez? It's obviously something you can't deal with NOW. I don't think anyone made that point.
June 20, 201113 yr Ricky may be one of the few Marlins that may make alot of us feel is overpaid. At least if Hanley gets himself back together and doesn't challenge that.
