This kid is really having an amazing season. He could be a big part of our future as soon as 2013. In his first full year he is hitting about .300, with 10 hr's, 55 rbi's, and 26 sb's with a very good k:bb ratio. Not to mention he is a lefty.

What does everybody think of his future? Could he be that number 2 hitter for the future(though i hear he doesnt pop out weakly as well as Omar Infante)?

I feel that he will be the eventual replacement for Gaby at first. Or if he's athletic enough, he can man left and Morrison shifts to first. Logan Morrison is horrible in left field.

This kid is legit. He lacks serious power, but a .371 OBP, .817 OPS, and the thing that stood out to me most, 26 stolen bases in 85 games, Yelich is gonna be good.

Still too early to tell, since he's in single A, but he's one of the few really good prospects we have in our system right now. He should be a top 50 prospect on MLB.com's list next season.

I really can't remember for sure, but weren't there concerns about him having a weak arm for the outfield? I thought the draft people were talking about how he'd likely be more suited for 1B like you said in your first scenario.

Didn't know he could run that well.

I remember when we drafted him man was he skinny. Hopefully as he gets older along with training and nutrition he can put on some weight and develop power.

It's left field, who really cares how the defense is? There aren't many teams that have good fielding left fielders, and if they do, that player usually can't hit. One would think, though, that between Yelich and Lomo, the athleticism of Yelich might give him a chance to be a better LFer, but that and defensive performance don't always correlate.

If Yelich advances in a couple years, it may put us in a good position to be able to trade Gaby and hopefully fill another position on the field

Not sure why everyone keeps talking about 1B/LF because I'm personally hoping he can play CF; he's athletic. 1B is actually out of the question; I doubt the Marlins would want to waste his athleticism there.

I'd always love a CFer who can legitimately hit, but I've not heard anything about him being able to play center.

Yelich and James are gonna be good ones. If James can have an era in the mid 3's with a opposing BA between .290-.300 imagine how good he is going to be when he learns how to miss bats.

Yea, I've never heard of him playing CF either. If he can that would be great.

What?

Edit: Nvm, I misread it.

I would love a future lineup of

Bonifacio- 2b

Yelich- Cf

Hanley- SS

Stanton- Rf

Morrison- LF

Gaby- 1b

Dominguez- 3b

Buck- c (wouldnt really love that)

that is a great mix of speed, power, contact, lefties, righties.

Hopefully Skippy can figure things out by then.

I remember hearing that he had a really really funky throwing motion, although I haven't heard anything about a weak arm. Just a really unorthodox throwing motion that needs to be improved.

wow. shows how completely far away he is when he didnt even cross my mind when thinking of catchers.

His BB rate is good but not great, he k's ok but you'd really like to see them drop with his lack of powe, his 0.5 bb/k is far from anything to write home about, his .152 iso is not good considering greensboro is easily the best hitters park in the sally, and his OPS can thank a lot to his high babip

He's having a productive year and, with his age, theres a lot of room for growth. But lets not go overboard here people

I think Yelich will be a solid MLB player. We may he him a couple of times in September, but I would expect his arrival to be 2013 at the earliest.

he is saying that if he has that baa now and still has a mid 3 era, he will be really good when that goes down.

Ha, wow I missed that too.

My apologies.

I agree with Erick, the kid is very athletic and has to have wheels if he has 26 stolen bases. He's definitely someone to consider as a future Center fielder, and if it was between him and LoMo playing LF and 1st base I'd definitely put Yelich in Left with his speed.

another great game last night. 3-4 with a hr. kid is gonna be a heck of a player. our next top prospect.

Our next top prospect? He is it right now, unless you rank Dominguez higher, but Dominguez has never been projected to have truly above average offense in the MLB.
