Bonifacio obviously deserves to have a big role next year, and there's no way that any of the other CF options deserve a spot over him. If we see Coghlan or Peterson trotted out opening day while Bonifacio sits the bench in a supersub role, I'll be mad.

I'm more for trading Gaby, Cogs, and Baker to bring in another speedster with a high OBP to play CF, moving Logan to 1B, and having Boni in LF.

 

This is assuming that the team has given up on Coghlan... does he need a great spring to win back the job?

This is similar to the Buck deal in that it’s too much money for a below average hitter but it’s not a lot of money so it’s not that big of a deal.. combined though that’s $10M for two below average hitters for their position in your lineup. I prefer Infante in the utility role.

Mediocre is average with a negative connotation. Average when you should be better, average because you settled for average rather than achieving. So-so and middling are used the same way. The mediocrity is in the Marlins settling for a hitter like Omar to fill one of the starting spots.

But Infante is an average to above-average 2B overall.

BR says he's +16 runs. Fangraphs says he's +8 runs. Most people's eyes seem to think he's an excellent fielder. He's above-average with the glove whether or not the metrics are perfect.

And he had a 111 OPS+ last year, and 100 in limited ABs the year before that. So, he's probably right around average with the bat, and above-average with the glove. Not sure why there is any disagreement about this.

How do you evaluate defense then? By observation? If it's by observation, Infante's pretty awesome.
