I'd rather not sign a reliever for more than about 2 years. The Phillies signing Papelbon for 4 years plus a 5th year vesting option is just insanity.

Yeah I'm all for just getting a great bullpen staff and then having somebody earn a closer role.... there's no need to pay a closer as much money as a starter.

Eh, Im not as excited about this offer. Too much money.

On another note from the article, does anyone really think the Braves are going to get a Grienke like deal for Jair Jurrgens?

[T]he plan we have is set and it is stringent. So we know from a flow-chart standpoint, if (a free agent says) yes, we go this direction. If no, we go in that direction. And at the end of each branch of our plan is a playoff team.

With all the offers being made i dont know if i should be excited or WORRIED. At first it seemed good. Like they are serious. Now it feels more like pr. I think we will get reyes and a sp.

Why? If they wanted the good pr, they already got it. They've been dominating the baseball headlines across the country. And Ryan Madson is not a household name, so this offer isn't that big for pr purposes.

Are you really saying that if we only get Reyes and a SP, it was just a "PR offseason" because we didn't get everyone?

This whole PR thing is ridiculous.

This isn't PR.

Never have they promised that payroll was going to skyrocket to such extremes. Never have they mentioned that they would sign four big names. Ryan Madson and Mark Buehrle aren't even big names. They're good pitchers, but no one is going to the stadium solely to watch Mark Buehrle or Ryan Madson pitch.

Not to mention the fact that it's possible that these offers are indeed being made, but the players might be choosing to go elsewhere. Because, at the end of the day, it's free agency meaning that the player has all the leverage in the world to do whatever the hell he wants.

Just because we want players doesn't mean they all want to sign here.

Id rather stick with lights out Leo. He got off to a really great start last year.

You mean the artist formally known as lights out Leo. :D

maybe he should just design a symbol to put on his jersey and we can just call him "the closer"
