Ryan Madson

Definitely the last thing I'd spend money on, honestly. With our current bullpen, a closer comes after everything else.

I agree. This would only be a last option if the price were more reasonable than expected and we couldn't get anything else we wanted. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Priorities... perhaps if we can convince the market that we're taking everyone we can have everyone for a lil under top price.

I don't think we'll get into a bidding war for Madson. I personally think he'll resign with Philly. However, I think it is a must for the Fish to sign a closer. If its not a high named guy such as KRod/Heath Bell, etc.. atleast a project guy who has exp. (i.e. Brad Lidge.)

Heath Bell is made for Petco...I really don't want him.

Uh, not really.

Rotoworld:

According to Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM, the Phillies are closing in on a four-year contract with Ryan Madson.

The deal could include a vesting option for a fifth year. Madson's agent Scott Boras usually doesn't work this quickly, but it's hard to see him doing much better elsewhere. The Phillies have also been in touch with Jonathan Papelbon, but it makes the most sense to keep Madson, as it won't cost them a first-round pick as compensation. Still, four years (and perhaps five) is a pretty long commitment for a relief pitcher.

seems madson & phils are talking about deal for about $11M a year. (@jim_duquette said 4 yrs). so that'd be 4 for about 44M

if anyone, at this point, doesn't think ALL OF THIS is just PR (after this Madson story), you're crazy.

we'll sign a few guys... but.... :exercise

Why are those the only options? They are probably interested in all of these guys, but not everyone is going to want to come here.

oh they're definitely interested in all those guys.

like, Beltran is backup for Cespedes. Reyes is backup if we don't sign Pujols. Gio is backup for Buerhle. that's why Loria said "minimum $80mil"

this Madson sh*t is just straight publicity.
