Iowa
Do we dare speculate?
Anonymous
We'll probably show interest but decide not to. Yoenis Cespedes, however, could be different.
Mephisto
This is the marlins you are talking about, they CANT be serious!
Schnellders
Think about those International Marlins
yokofox33
His posting fee would be insane, and his actual contract would be a risk, but this kid is friggin' awesome. Personally his signing with the Marlins would mean a lot to me, but I'm thrilled he's potentially going to be in the MLB at all. It doesn't make sense financially for the Marlins though when you consider the posting fee.

SkyJuice
I know we're cool. miami. International. right, but are we this international? Yu is an amazing pitcher, but I'm leary of how he will translate over to mlb.
Michael
Yu is an amazing pitcher, but I'm leary of how he will translate over to mlb. 5 straight years of an ERA under 2 is pretty phenominal no matter where you are.

Should we do it mike?? i think our only asian pitcher ever was b.kim
Michael
And in those 5 years his WHIP has only been over 1 once [and barely, 1.01]

Blustar
When does the bidding war for this start, so I can prepare?
97marlin
the posting fee is going to be like 30m, That is NOT good business. Cespedes is just a contract.
I Love Me Some Fish
I doubt we're interested. Texas seems to be a favorite.
Blustar
Do you get the sealed bid back if it's not the highest?
PurpleHaze
I don't like the idea of having to shell out millions just to talk to someone.
Iowa
Do you get the sealed bid back if it's not the highest? You get the bid back if its not the highest.. and I'm pretty sure you get the money back if you can't reach an agreement with the player. It's so wierd. It's like playing a high stakes poker game. ohw much would Miami hae to bid to get the rights to talk? Who gets the money from the bid? The team or the player? Because he's under contract overseas.. this is their way of getting something in return for letting a player out of his contract. As far as how much, I have no idea... that's up to the teams bidding. I'm guessing all bids are private so the teams bidding have to make a pretty educated guess.
Schnellders
Does it not just work like soccer transfers? Make a bid, if accepted you talk to the player. If nothing is agreed, you dont need to pay the transfer fee.
GalloPINTO
I'm sure it will cost us upwards from 15 mil just to sit down and have a translator talk to him. Screw that.....but he is an insanley good pitcher. So he might be worth it?
rc305
Everything I have read suggests it will take at least 30 million to win the bid.
