Yu Darvish

Theres no way he gets 20 million per year. Not even the Yankees are crazy enough to pay that for him. Daisuke's base salary when he came over was a tad over 6 million. Yu is better than him so it seems like you guys should be in the right ballpark with saying 12 million per year or so.

And now back to some real news Yu and I can be proud of:

Per Rotoworld.com:

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox seem "lukewarm" to the idea of making a bid on Japanese right-hander Yu Darvish.

"I’m not sure the timing this offseason puts us in a position to be the most aggressive team,’’ said GM Ben Cherington. "But he’s a good pitcher and we have a lot of respect for him. We’ll certainly discuss it and figure out if a [bid] makes sense. But we’ve got a lot of [financial] commitment to the starting rotation and feel pretty good about the front end of our rotation.’’ We can never rule the Red Sox out, but it doesn't sound like they'll be in contention for the Japanese sensation. The Blue Jays, Rangers and Yankees are likely to go after him.

I don't like the idea of having to shell out millions just to talk to someone.

Why does the league even allow that?

Is this guy half Irish (or half something)? Is that why his last name isn't Asian? Or is he adopted?

He's been posted. Let the bidding begin!

Major League Baseball on Thursday announced the posting of highly touted Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish to all 30 clubs.

Teams will have until 5 p.m. Wednesday EST to submit sealed bids under the posting system. The names of the teams and the amounts they bid for the 25-year-old Nippon Ham Fighters right-hander will not be disclosed.

The highest bidding club would win the exclusive right to negotiate with Darvish, upon approval of the price by his Japanese club, and would then have 30 days to work out a deal.

Darvish went 18-6 with a 1.44 ERA and 276 strikeouts this past season, keeping his ERA below 2.00 for the fifth consecutive year.

The son of an Iranian father and a Japanese mother has a career record of 93-38 with a 1.99 ERA in 167 games over seven seasons, all with Nippon Ham.

Darvish said on his official blog Thursday in Japan that he has decided to use the posting system to make himself available to major league clubs.
