Phillies release Dontrelle Willis

Featured Replies

He had one rough outing, a dead arm issue, and pitched better yesterday. It appears that he was released because his contract would become partially guaranteed tomorrow. He'll catch on somewhere and I hope he excels as a situational lefty. He did very well vs lefties in 2011.

Sadly I'm not surprised this happened. Although Dontrelle pitched a scoreless inning with only a walk yesterday in a split squad game in Clearwater, a source bluntly told me on Wednesday that the Phillies just weren't liking what they were seeing from him at all. On the flip side, Juan Pierre had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the other split squad in Port Charlotte, leading off and playing center field. He's a non-roster invitee, but he looked like vintage JP out there. All those hits, runs and RBIs came in the first two innings against Wade Davis (my guess is he's the Ray who will be shafted out of the rotation).

Yeah that looks better. I only have paint at wok. -_-

Probably my favorite player to ever play the game. I wish the Marlins would just give this guy a spot somewhere. How can it hurt?

Orioles signed LHP Dontrelle Willis to a minor league contract.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that it's a split contract worth $700,000 for time spent in the majors. Willis was released by the Phillies last week after allowing five runs over 2 2/3 innings while walking four and striking out none during Grapefruit League play. It's not clear if the Orioles will use him as a starter or reliever, but he's likely to begin the season in the minors.
