Ouch. He was a big bargain for them going into the season, what a huge waste of $8.5 million that Cincy will never get back.

 

 

There may be something like this but there needs to be some kind of insurance for teams in situations like this. Like the player gets half the salary owed instead of the full amount.

I dont see why you wouldnt consider how often pitchers get injured and how much they paid for the contract. Poor planning.

It's expensive and doesn't cover the whole contract.

I take it a set percentage of whatever the contract is determines the price of the insurance. Does anyone know what the figure is.

Depends on how injury prone the player is, AKA how risky of an insured he is.
