Attendance

Recommended Posts

The initial break-in time is gone. The 1-2 years that it takes to get enough folks comfortable with a new stadium/parking/driving is still to come.

.

But, look at tonite.

Weather-wise, it couldn't be nicer and it's been nice all day in the tri-county area.

Friday night, no school issues.

The team is coming off a red-hot road trip.

A new stadium that's been well received.

The opponent is the Mutts, also hot, who drew 25,000+ actual asses in seats in the old stadium for years under similar conditions.

.

Where is everybody?

I'm hoping it's a case of just going once and getting comfortable with the drive/park/park.

But, what do others think?

I'm not angry.

And it looks like a late crowd that'll be nice around 30-32k actually there. I'd expect an announced crowd of 35000+.

Still, it's 20% short of an actual sell-out and that's surprising to me under the circumstances.

I would have expected before the season started that a scenario like tonight would actually produce a true sell-out...in the seats.

I have long been of the opinion that the location, access, and parking issues (despite patchwork solutions), none of which will ever be fully remedied, will always disenfranchise spur-of-the-moment Broward, Palm Beach, and northern Dade fans, while southern Dade fans would never provide enough backfill.

At this point, given the ideal conditions and recent team achievements with still less-than-stellar attendance, I see no reason to believe this isn't occurring, and I see nothing to refute that.

They didn't do much to fill the place up when it was close to them.

31k under ideal conditions in mid-May., which means 25k asses in seats...with a concert to add ...I would have thought before the season started that tonite, if weather came up as ideal as it did, that we'd see a sell-out.

Some of you are tough to please....

For a while there, the team didn't give us much of a reason to do so.

I've been to the ballpark a few times now, and this late sh*t happens every time.

It is a city with little public transportation and awful traffic patterns. What do you expect?

For people to plan accordingly? It really isn't tough to show up to the game on time.

What a silly response.

If you work on the day of the game, there's only so much planning you can do. You are at the mercy of factors beyond your control.

Does it really matter if people get there on time? I think that is such a silly complaint for people to make.

If by mid season, this team is doing well (above .500 and contending for division/wildcard) and we don't average 34,000+ for a weekend series, your worry would be merited. Around mid-summer kids will be out of school and the Heat should be done with their parade down Biscayne Blvd :) Frankly if by that time we can't average 35,000 for a weekend series while we are contending and in the first year of a new ballpark I will be embarrassed for our fan base.

How is 35k 20% short of an actual sell-out? There aren't 44k seats....

The lines move slow as heck. We realized the machines were much better.

For starters, it has never been close to us.

When the new place was being built and some of the Broward and PBC fans (not me,just was happy they were staying in South Florida) were complaining how much further the place was, those in South Dade kept saying how it is only about 15 minutes further. So where were they before the move? It was only about 15 minutes further.

Watch those attendance numbers drop next year when the season ticket holders from the "northern counties" drop that "double up" option, and others drop their packages all together. We didn't double up, yet we are considering going with some type of mini plan instead of the full season. Maybe not. Pretty easy right now to get tix at the gate.
