Mets might be changing closers after this game...

Mets manager Terry Collins didn't commit to Frank Francisco as his closer after Sunday's implosion.

Collins said the Mets will address their closer situation on Monday. Francisco gave up three runs to the Marlins Sunday while failing to record an out. Although Francisco began this month by posting four consecutive scoreless outings, he has been mostly awful outside of that and now has a 8.56 ERA and 1.98 WHIP after two ugly outings against Miami over the weekend. At this point, we expect Collins to anoint Jon Rauch -- who has been far superior to Francisco this season -- as his stopper in the short-term. He'll render his decision in the next 24 hours.

New Rule: Heath Bell should be unavailable to pitch ever y Zambrano start.

how many years we got him for again?

3 year deal I believe

Relatively speaking (compared to, say, the third game in New York), Bell didn't pitch that horrendously. He does have some location problems, though.

The double to Murphy was just bad luck, but he did walk a batter and that 3-2 pitch to Turner was left up for the taking.

Has anyone hit the HR sculpture yet? I bet their gonna have to repair some damages to it from time to time...Haven't seen anyone hit it in a game yet but maybe its gotten hit during BP?

i think Dobbs should be getting a chance to start, maybe instead of Gaby at first

That thing is massive. It should be able to take a homerun or two.

The problem is, they're paying him to be lights out -- the bullpen has any number of pitchers who can throw a inning giving up a walk and a fortunate hit or two. Unfortunately for us, there is still plenty of incentive to put him out there -- i.e. to make the contract work -- and for as long as his teammates keep pulling his ass out of the fire, they will keep doing it.

Ironically, the longer the Marlins keep winning, the more closing opportunities Bell will get, even if he can't get it right.

I'm not saying it would stop functioning if it got hit; I'm saying that a hard smash in the right spot could break one of the features (let's say, the waves for example) or at least stop it from working properly.

I'm guessing people aim for it during BP (I know I would) so I'm assuming its been hit already...Still though-there's only a certain amount of hits it could take before something breaks.

When you throw an incredibly predictable 5-6 fastballs in a row to a major league hitter, chances are you're going to get hit hard somewhere. I know you're speaking relatively, but he looked like sh*t to me. The bottom line is he has no business being used in this game whatsoever. Pathetic decision-making.

Looks like everybody in the NLE is going to win today (minus Mets of course)

nope, joey votto just pulled a stanton and walk-off GS'ed the nats. his 3rd hr of the day. i had edwin jackson on my fantasy team too >.

i was forced to leave my apartment after hanley walked but i freaked when i heard stanton hit a granny.

two walk off grand slams today with votto as well.

big win and i know heath didnt deserve a win but if he just finishes ronny cedeno hes out of the inning. still no excuse.

The thing is constantly using him in leverage situations has no bearing on whether or not the contract will work. Making him suck in the 9th in a close game is no better, as far as being worth his contract is concerned, than having him suck in a blow out game. In fact, it's a lot worse. At least he can try and get his sh*t together in a moderate situation without costing us the game.

As it is, many people considered this a crappy contract from the beginning. There were bad trends in Bell's numbers from last year (the dip in K rate), and it very rarely makes sense to give a reliever big money. The Marlins weren't starved for a relievers either.

Bell may well not even come close to being worth that contract. Maybe he will get better at some point, but it makes no sense to try and compound the problem.

Posing with the player of the game...

My butterface sense is tingling.

By the way, why are you posting this? I don't think you took this picture or that it's you...
