h2r09
pretty sh*tty night for prospects other than yelich. he is unbelievable. the only thing i can see for why he is still in Jupiter is because they want him to be a star in the future so the want him to improve vs lefties. Currently he is only hitting .297 and ops of .797 as opposed to near .350 with an ops of .1050 Thats the only real reason i can see. Also, we have a lot of guys who project to great platoon guys in the future but cant hit a particular type of pitcher. Ozuna, Skipworth, Realmuto, Jensen. If those guys can improve their numbers they can be legitimate prospects. Specifically talking about Ozuna and Skipworth.

The 1993 Phillies were built around a platoon system, they made their way to the WS that year, it hadn't really been done before successfully or since, but for a year it worked really well. Michael
Yelich is hitting .297 and OPSing .797 against lefties and they wnat him to IMPROVE on that? That's still pretty damn good! Anyways - I just realized, if we keep Morrison on this team, in 2 years we'll have a line-up with 4 lefties. LoMo, Yelich, Brantly, Zack Cox. IDK how I'd configure that line-up, either, assuming we keep everyone else that should be starting [stanton, Boni, Reyes, Ruggiano]. Shoot, against a righty, that's 6 lefties. lol. My disliking of so many lefties is that, somewhere, we'll have to be stacking two lefties together [probably 7 and 8]. I'd imagine It'd be Boni, Yelich, Reyes, Stanton, Morrison, Ruggiano, Brantly, Cox, Pitcher. Of course, Brantly and Realmuto could always platoon and Ruggiano and Morrison could switch against lefties. IDK, it's an idea.

Thats if cox and brantly work out. if we have 4 lefties who are capable of hitting major league pitching who cares? as long as they can hit im fine with any side of the plate dominating our lineup. Michael
IDK I'm just not a fan of having to have 2 lefties back to back at any time in the line-up unless it's 8 and pitcher or pitcher and leadoff.

h2r09
I didnt dispute that. Im saying is he has mastered A+ righties. HE should move on to AA next year and if this continues make him a platoon guy in the big leagues.
Erick
That's not really the way platoons work. Especially with Ozzie Guillen managing the team; he's not open-minded enough to do such a thing.
h2r09
Im just going to say if they only let fernandez go 5 innings tonight im gonna go crazy. through 4 easily only 2 hits, 5 k's, and 49 pitches . let him throw 80 pitches.

I'm assuming 0 walks since you didn't mention. 4 innings, 14 batters. 49/14 = 3.5 pitchers per batter. NOT FREAKIN' BAD, MAN! If he keeps up that pace, let him go 8! 8 innings, 4 hits, 10 K's, 0 walks, 98 pitches. DO IT!
h2r09
strikes out the side. 8 k's through 5 on only 62 pitches. this kid is a f***ing star. let him keep pitching
h2r09
so f***ing ridiculous. no wonder our homegrown developed pitchers never go deep. we f***ing baby every single pitcher. the kid cant throw more than 5 innings despite the fact that he breezed through 5 with only 61 pitches? ridiculous. Michael
Incredibly ridiculous. Jesus Christ, kid could have gone 7, easy. Maybe even 8, like I said.

dim
Remember when fans used to bitch that we were pushing prospects up too quickly (Stanton when he got the call to AA/Majors, Morrison to the majors, etc...). But yeah, Yelich needs a promotion, and Fernandez is on pace to be in the big leagues by age 21.
Hotcorner
I mean why would it be an inning limit as opposed to a pitch count limit?? That seems like the tool to use, ok dude you've got x pitches to work with, see how far you can get. & i know it's also their job down there to get a look at a lot of guys so they want to get innings for the pen too but my god this is a special kid. Happy to see they called up grant dayton to aa jax though, good looking arm.
h2r09
its just stupid. these kids will never go deep into games if they don't do it in the minors. its been a problem with us for years.

Maybe a guy like Fernandez continues throwing on the side, while other guys get a crack at live innings.
Michael
Seriously, why can't they give Fernandez like an 85-90 pitch limit? He could have EASILY gone 7 innings last night, maybe even 8.
