October 29, 201213 yr You don't like the guy. What's to like about a guy who can't even control a clown like Heath Bar? He got into a public back-and-forth with him. He's supposedly a MANAGER. He apparently couldn't bring himself to do and say something like: "You suck. Stop making excuses and figure it out. Go watch the videos of every single one of your blown saves this year. Then watch the videos of every single one of your 14 blown saves for the previous 3 years. Then watch the videos of every single one of your 132 successful saves in those same 3 years. You know, the reason we signed you. I've already had the video guys get it all together for you. You have two days to get it done. I've instructed St. Claire to do the same thing. I've already watched all of it. Three days from now, you and I and St. Claire will have a meeting. In the meantime, if I read one more word you uttered after today in the public prints about me or any of my coaches that's anything other than positive and supportive, you'll never close another game for this team, in fact you may never pitch again for this team. Quit your bitching and excuse-making and blame-shifting and do your job, which is now to figure out why you suck. This meeting is over."
October 29, 201213 yr You really think an airline ticket will break the bank? Who said anything about breaking the bank? I put it in terms of wasting money. Good money, even if a tiny sum, after bad money on a monumental scale, at least as far as the Marlins are concerned.

October 29, 201213 yr If it is a major position, and if you value the person, and if you want to own up to a decision - you do it face to face.
October 30, 201213 yr Writing is on the wall, or running across the lockerroom doing naked cartwheels. Either way, Redmond isn't a bad choice.

October 31, 201213 yr Tigers hitting coach Lloyd McClendon has emerged as a candidate to become the Marlins' manager. McClendon, who managed the Pirates from 2001-05, interviewed with Marlins officials on Tuesday, according to sources. The 53-year-old McClendon would be a good fit with the Marlins, who are trying to move on after one turbulent year with Ozzie Guillen in charge. Mike Redmond and Admin Bowa have also been mentioned as candidates for the job. The Pirates were 336-446 under McClendon, but that record looks significantly better in retrospect. After winning 75 games under McClendon in 2003 and 72 games in 2004, the Pirates went six years without even getting to 70 wins. Until this year, when they won 79 games, they hadn't bettered McClendon's 75-win season. McClendon joined Jim Leyland's Tiger staff in 2006 and has played a big part in helping the Tigers to two World Series and three ALCS appearances.
