December 3, 201213 yr All other factors aside, why would Hamilton want to come here based on the fact that we are now clearly rebuilding? Three weeks ago I'd have at least mildly entertained the Hamilton idea so he could join Reyes and Stanton. Not now. Same reason why every player signed here last year without a NTC...We offer the most money and most years. Exactly why Reyes choose Miami, why Buerhle did and why Bell did. Even Pujols almost signed here until the Angels gave him more money and a NTCThere's no reason for the marlins to do that now, we did that last year because we had a few nice pieces in place like Hanley LoMo Gaby Infante Stanton JJ and we believed a couple more pieces would get us over the hump. But now we have none, at all positions it's developmental players that are going to take years to develop , no reason to pay for a big time free agent now

December 4, 201213 yr Beinfest was also asked today if Stanton requested a trade, and he refused to answer the question claiming that those conversations are 'private'. I take that as a yes. I'm not sure if it has been mentioned here, but last week David Samson in an interview flat out said that they would not be in on any major FAs. Just in case anyone here was still crazy enough to think that the team wasn't going back to the basement as far as payroll.
