Winter Meetings Rumors

At this point I kinda wanna know the end result. I wish we knew right now if he's a goner or not.

And if he gets traded, I'd hope thats the clear end of the road for Loria and Co. Trading away the prime youthful single building block of this ballclub would be all I need to demand that MLB does something about Loria. There would be absolutely no way for Loria and Samson to spin a trade of Stanton as something that's benefical to this ballclub and to "baseball in Miami."

They'll probably get a reliever for Escobar.

Not sure if you're serious but I could see this happening.

I am serious. It's either that or something less. They should be able to find a bullpen arm in the A's/Rays system. God forbid they actually keep Escobar for a little while and trade him in July instead...too much money! :(

I keep refreshing twitter expecting the worst regarding Stanton...

no kidding...I just caught myself holding my breath and puckering my butt with my last refresh

I needed that reassurance, Erick. Thanks.

I say that because he can demand a trade but he really has no leverage at this point.

He's still cheap and he's now the face of the team. The Marlins won't trade him after all they've done this offseason; I believe that much. Selig might actually veto that; he's already said he was going to monitor the situation or something. I just don't see it happening this offseason although it makes sense from a baseball standpoint if he's decided he doesn't want to stay here long-term.

I also see Ricky Nolasco staying put. He probably won't live up to his contract, but the Marlins need his 11.5M on the books just to save face. And best case scenario, Ricky performs well in his contract year and is dangled at the trade deadline or nets us a supplemental pick after the season is over.

I would like to keep Escobar, personally. Unless the offer is good. I don't want to flip him for some random ass RP.

They have literally no one to play 3B if Yunel goes. Solano at 3B and DeRosa at 2B. YEEAAAHHHHHH

Dobbs-Kouzmanoff/DeRosa platoon! . . .

Well, I'm officially a Cubs fan.

I imagine the same position would be headed back.

They're not going to get a major-league caliber 3B for Escobar so I doubt it.

A cheap reliever who could potentially pitch the 8th inning seems like something that's more do-able.

I doubt a lot of next year's team is major-league caliber anyways.

This is just sad. I don't care if Ricky wants out, but that just means Stanton wants out.

I have a deep, burning hatred for Loria and Samson. I really hope they come about some great misfortune.

Is Ricky close with Stanton?

Yep. Both being natives of California [i wanna say close to same zip code but not sure], they became pretty good friends.

And they went on that trip together with Guillen.

Which trip? The trip out of Miami in the 2012 offseason?

The one to Toronto.

Yeeeahh um, but, see, Guillen didn't go to Toronto. Sooo, um, not sure where you were taking the joke at this point. Maybe, to, um, ok fine... Toronto? :patriot

They went to Spain right after the season ended. Peterson went as well. When they got back Guillen was fired.

I thought you have to offer arbitration to get a supplemental pick? And we certainly would not risk offering Nolasco arbitration, since he'd likely accept and end up again vastly overpaid.

Well if this all leads to Petersen being traded to then we can all agree everything up until this point has been worth it.
