February 6, 201313 yr I like this move for the Marlins. Rauch came at quite a bargain as he had a 0.99 WHIP last year for the Mets. I hope some team claims Petersen, because he absolutely awful as a player. Couldn't hit his was out of a very wet paper bag.
February 6, 201313 yr Cishek Rauch Webb Dunn Ramos Lara/Jennings Qualls Mid-season: Cishek Rauch Eovaldi Dunn Ramos Lara/Jennings Webb [Assuming Fernandez gets called up or something, Eovaldi to the pen] Also, imagine this: Ramos/Eovaldi 7th Rauch 8th Cishek 9th Not that they'd face the same hitters, but the eye level change would be drastic. [5'11/6'2 to 6'11 to 6'6 sidearming] Why is it that Eovaldi gets pushed to the pen? We don't even have a 5th starter right now.LeBlanc until Heaney is up. Unless Eovaldi develops a good third pitch and stamina, he's a bullpen guy. Heaney isn't coming up any time soon. And Eovaldi should always have a spot in the rotation over LeBlanc. At least Eovaldi has upside. LeBlanc is who he is, and who he is is not good at all. If anything, it's LeBlanc who should go to the bullpen; his #'s were way better out of the pen last year, anyway.

Unless Eovaldi develops a good third pitch and stamina, he's a bullpen guy.I think you're a bit premature with your Heaney talk. The guy has 6 professional starts, averaging less than 5 IP per start, and a 4.95 ERA against A-ball competition. No way he's up this year. September call up. Maybe. Besides, LeBlanc will be the #5 starter most likely, and like I said, Eovaldi needs to develop stamina and a third pitch to be a starter. Can't have him go 5, 6 innings every time and getting gassed. That or go the Justin Verlander route, toss for a bit then when you need it, blow 98 by a guy, but still ... Third pitch. That's why Eovaldi gets shafted to the pen for now.
February 6, 201313 yr Author I'm not too high on Eovaldi, but he should be getting starts. And there's little chance that Heaney starts in September.

As long as Wade LeBlanc is one of the five guys in the rotation, Nathan Eovaldi should always be in the rotation. Eovaldi is still very young. Henderson Alvarez does not have a "third pitch" either, but he's also going to start as he should.
February 6, 201313 yr I actually look forward to seeing Eovaldi pitch this season and in the future. I mean the dude is about to turn 23. How have you all given up on him already?
February 6, 201313 yr Author Yeah, it's not like this team is going to be making a playoff run. You don't send a young arm to the pen just because LeBlanc is on the roster. That's silly.
February 6, 201313 yr Rauch is a nice signing. However, I can't get over how freaking scary his ESPN picture is... How this man didn't grow up to become a serial killer is beyond me.
February 6, 201313 yr Rauch will receive $250K for time spent on the Marlins' roster after 90, 120 and 150 days, says Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald (via Twitter). LOL. I think we all know how this is gonna end.
February 6, 201313 yr He's on the roster from 2-5, so 150 days is only 7-5 and they will have paid him his full .75 mill bonus before the trade deadline, 1.25 mill total. He'll only cost .5 mill for the last 3 months. Now if "on the roster" means only during the regular season, that changes the incentives and I probably won't have to look at his stupid neck tat beyond the 1st of July.
February 6, 201313 yr What a strange contract, I didnt know they made contracts with that breakdown. Surprising he took that, oh well. So how come nobody gives Scott Maine a shot in our pen? He was brought in a bit under the rader but I felt like he was right behind Dunn as our 2nd lefty, ahead of the still-developing Jennings. Any chance he sticks for the year?
February 6, 201313 yr Jon Rauch signed a one year deal. Bryan Petersen was designated for assignment Noooooooooooooooooooooo. Lomo lost his BFF.
February 6, 201313 yr Author Petey will probably clear waivers and be in camp just the same anyway, only change is he won't be on the 40-man.
February 6, 201313 yr Solid signing. I wonder where Cishek's value is right now. He's still cheap (and probably as cheap as he's going to be if we close with him this year) but has he shown enough to warrant a B type prospect? If so, I'd trade him now and close with Rauch.

Maybe we should just keep the pitcher we have since he's young and under team control for quite some time.
February 6, 201313 yr Author There is no good reason at all to trade Cishek and the Marlins won't be trading him anyway.
February 8, 201313 yr There is no good reason at all to trade Cishek and the Marlins won't be trading him anyway. Eh he's arb eligible next year and if he has a 35+ save year he won't be cheap (cheap by fish standards).
February 8, 201313 yr I wish some team would have claimed Petersen on waivers, because he has proven that he stinks.....just like Brett Carroll did. No way I deal Cishek this year....that just makes no sense at all. They will probably deal Rauch at the trade deadline in July if he is pitching well, which I think he will be.
February 8, 201313 yr We could almost make a list of "Guys who will be gone by July 31"... Rauch, Nolasco, and any other veteran who has a decent first half.
