Miami Marlins to close upper bowl for some games

The upper bowl will be closed for six dates during the team’s nine-game homestand that begins next Tuesday. Fans can sit only in the lower bowl for games May 14-16 against Cincinnati and May 20-22 against Philadelphia. The upper bowl will remain open for May17-19 games against Arizona.

Fewer than 500 people own season tickets in the upper bowl, and those fans are being moved — with no additional charge — to seats in the lower bowl for all Monday-through-Thursday games.

Upper bowl tickets to weeknight games will continue be sold on Marlins.com. Fans who buy single-game upper deck tickets will be moved to the lower bowl if the Marlins decide to close the upper bowl on those particular nights.

Closing the upper bowl for some games “will give an overall better fan experience, Loyello said, adding from a standpoint of concessions, restrooms and other services, “it will be better for fans than if they were scattered in a larger area.

lololololololol

What if these fans prefer to sit in the upper deck? What if they paid their hard earned money for the privilege of having an entire section all to themselves? What if they don't like the new seats?

Too bad. If people get angry about getting a free upgrade, that's their problem.

It's only an "upgrade" if the supposed beneficiary agrees that it is. Otherwise it's just a forced relocation. This has nothing to do with improving the fan experience. It's about cutting cost.

They would be giving you a better seat. It's like complaining that you're upgraded from coach to first class on a plane

Better is subjective.

I sat upper deck there and I sat lower deck there. Sure, you have a section to yourself up there but the view of the game can't be compared. My personal opinion anyway.

It just seems to be another way for some fans to complain about anything the Marlins do. They could hand out $100 bills at the entrance and someone would complain about that somehow.

How about just giving the few fans in the upper deck the option to move to "better" seats in the lower deck if they prefer?

When the Panthers did this it actually made the place look more filled.

When the Marlins do it, it'll just make it easier to count how many people are in the crowd.

If anyone complains about this, oh well. I have home run porch fix for the 16th. Wonder where I will end up.

That's not the upper bowl, methinks. I believe you may be fine for that one. But don't quote me on that.

Consider yourself quoted.

So they should staff the upper deck in case a few fans would prefer to turn down the upgrade?

That's not the season ticket holders' problem. They entered into that agreement with the Marlins. Now unless there's something in the contract they signed that allows them to change their seats at will (which I hope there isn't...) then people have a reason to complain. If I were one of those people, I'd complain just to give this front office some trouble lol.

They could always allow those 4 upper deck season ticket holders to sit there, but leave the AC off and keep all the concessions closed.

They could. And you'll find that those people won't renew their season tickets, and there would rightfully be tons of articles on Yahoo about it.

But Admin,

How could they afford to give out $100 bills at the gate? Didn't they just beg Miami to build the 2.3 Trillion Dollar Stadium?

OPEN DA BOOKS!!!!!
