canada-marlin24
Panthers waived Robak and Crabb today. They just gave Crabb a two year deal so that is pretty weird. But when that happened it was clear something was up and they signed D Ryan Whitney to a 1-year deal for $900,000. I thought they might go after John Michael Liles or TJ Brennan who were both waived by Toronto. I am pretty surprised they didnt just drop Gilroy and keep Robak. Dr Beinfest
Not weird. It was probably a two-way deal. As lame as a Whitney signing might look, just always remember that Gilroy would've been playing instead. Keep that in mind and appreciate the talent Whitney brings as a bottom pairing defender. gizmo
Whitney is nothing special, but I'd take him over Gilroy or Robak right now. Both looked useless during preseason.
canada-marlin24
i think that if whitney can stay healthy, he can be a key contributor.
Dr Beinfest
I think it's great that Thomas, Whitney, Boyes, and Gilbert all come in on 1 year contracts. If they have even decent seasons, they're flipabble for 1st to 5th round picks (depending on the player/performance).
gizmo
Panthers beat Dallas 4-2! Barkov youngest ever to score in the NHL and Thomas gets the win! WOOOOOOO
canada-marlin24
Big win in the first game and the team played well. A few collapses but they made sacrifices and pulled it out. Great to see Gomez and Barkov get their first goals and Thomas get a win. I wasnt sure how this one would play out once Dallas went up 2-1. Not an easy schedule coming up. yokofox33
Last night's game was one of the most painful sporting events I've been to. Even the Boston fan behind me felt sorry for me.
Dr Beinfest
And the rumors are swirling about a Panther firesale... I don't think it's a firesale so much as they're about to flip a bunch of players on 1 yr contracts (and players who are going to be on 1 yr contracts). Much like when Dale Tallon first got here. It isn't a surprise, this was the plan all along. That's why most of those guys like Versteeg and Fleischmann and so on all got contracts ending around the same time. gizmo
Nothing major is going to happen until the deadline. I'm betting on that. But if we were to do something huge, let's go after Yakupov if he becomes available.
Mr. Man
If they make some massive trade to bring in Yakupov, they will come to regret it IMO. We all will.
gizmo
All depends on who we give up. Obviously Hubs and Barkov wouldn't be going.
