January 28, 201610 yr Just. Stop. Looks like you are not a fan of my classic practical jokes. I will try harder next time.

January 28, 201610 yr Gables is just being sour, bro. Clap for your classic practical jokes and feel the power, Vince! Hilarious. Lol. Some people are very uptight here.
January 28, 201610 yr This certainly could bite us in the balls but Jarred Cosart had shown he is capable of being a very solid starting pitcher.
January 28, 201610 yr THIS JUST IN! Marlins have signed Walter Mercado to tell the future for the team as they now feel a HUGE LOSS for Marte for not having psychic power to know his fastball would increase by so much and pitch to such high standards. The contract is said to be in the 7 million dollar range which now puts the Marlins out of the market for a starting pitcher.

They need better scouts and talent evaluators. Our farm system isn't bare because of bad luck. It's because of bad drafts, bad trades, and a lack of developing talent. With that said, they have hit it big with Stanton, Fernandez, Yelich, and to a lesser extent Ozuna. So we have to give them credit for that. But looking at the current state of our minor league system, it's hard to be happy with the results. It just seems as if after the promotion of those aforementioned players the FO has gotten worse at evaluating talent. They have made some changes in their FO and scouting personnel in the last two off seasons. Hopefully that will have a positive effect on draft day and on player development. One can only dream.

His arm has always been big; it was his control other pitches there were underdeveloped. He's basically what the marlins can only dream Kolek will become. And Marte is just part of the big picture of absolutely horrendous the marlins have been with their young pitching of late. Marte, Disco, Heaney, Eovaldi, Kolek (over Rodon/Nola)

If we could got all the BEST TALENTS by spend the FISTER MONEY in Walter Mercado, then it absolutely WORTH IT.
February 14, 201610 yr ya he won't be either a top 10 or 25 prospect next year. Was his talent misjudged by us? Yes. But he's not that good. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/top-100-prospects/
February 14, 201610 yr But what about Domingo German, the guy they said would be the next Jose?!?!?! Don't know if this was a joke post but German missed all of last year after Tommy John surgery. Plus his record was against low A as a 22 year old. He's likely less of a prospect now than he was when we traded him to the Yankees. I'm not sure anybody could've predicted Martes becoming as good as he is. That Cosart trade is definitely turning out to become one sided, especially with Kike Hernandez proving himself hugely valuable for the Dodgers.

However, some people did say he'd be the next Jose, despite having numbers nowhere near what Jose put up in A ball. No idea why.
February 14, 201610 yr Don't remember those talks on this board but I remember touting German highly just because it was somewhat rare to see a guy pitch like he did in GBoro. Wasn't a huge loss when we traded him, but the fact that we traded every valuable prospect or young player we had (Heaney, Desclafani, Wallach, Hernandez, Barnes, Hatcher, German, Eovaldi) for a run last year that didn't pay off really sucks. Add the mid season trades that saw the loss of Martes/Moran/Marisnick, and we've basically traded a top 12 MLB farm system in the last year in a half for very little overall return (a good two months of Cosart, a good year of Haren, a league average 3B in Prado and Dee Gordon are the rewards from all those players we let go). Watching the depletion of the Marlins entire farm system over the last year and a half has been horrible.
February 14, 201610 yr I know that Loria is overbearing, but I'm really surprised that Hill still has a job at this point after what he let happen to the farm system. I don't think any team has had a weaker farm system at any point during the modern era of baseball. It's that bad.
February 14, 201610 yr Kike Hernandez is gonna break Griffey's HOF induction percentage record right?
February 14, 201610 yr I get the joke when used for Twine but Hernandez is actually a good starting 2nd baseman.

February 17, 201610 yr Wtf are you people taking about? Moran sucks. @Admin don't lock this, delete this thread. Waste of 1's and 0's. He's 22 and just posted a .840 OPS (.381 OBP) in AA and plays great defense. He also hit .294 in pitcher's paradise Jupiter for us. How exactly does he suck?

I don't think any team has had a weaker farm system at any point during the modern era of baseball. It's that bad. While its thin, it hasn't been that long since we promoted our top class. And there are gonna be some good players in Greensboro this year (Garrett, Munden, Ferandez, Dunbar, an improving Kolek). We've also had to call on our B type prospects a bit early (Urena, Ellington, Flores) because of injury. So its really not THAT bad, all in all.
February 22, 201610 yr No, it really is that bad. Naylor and Garrett are our only prospects better than C's, and they're still not that good. Most of our prospects wouldn't be in other team's top 20. They're all #5 starters, run-of-them-mill BP arms, or a position player that'll be lucky to break into the majors.
