March 23, 201511 yr Salty is not as bad as some of you seem to think. Wasn't he like a 1.5 WAR player according to fangraphs for only $6M? Even with an OPS just over .700 he is the best catcher we've had in a long time.

While true, most of that WAR was gained in April..I actually think at one point he had accumulated 2.5 WAR but then he was so terrible it went down 1.0

And that dollar amount will go up to $7 and $8 this year and next per his contract.

March 23, 201511 yr He's bad at offense and defense, other than that he's great. OT: By the way Carlos Pena just said on MLB Network that Chris Carter (Houston Atros) has the most power in baseball, repeated it again when challenged on it, true story.

OT: By the way Carlos Pena just said on MLB Network that Chris Carter (Houston Atros) has the most power in baseball, repeated it again when challenged on it, true story. He's a strong guy, but he plays in a major hitter's park. And strikes out more than Stanton. Hard to do!
March 24, 201511 yr I'm sure Carlos Pena showed all sorts of scientific data proving his claim about carter's power.

March 24, 201511 yr Yea it's pretty bad. So is his offense. About the only thing he does well is having a lot of syllables in his name. There really is nothing to like about Saltalamacchia as a player. Outside of the fact that the aforementioned last name might come up in a trivia night somewhere.

March 24, 201511 yr The worst part about it is that this thread just reminded me that he's here for another two years. Unless we trade him to the Yankees for a Yogi Berra bobble head doll and a Red Fish to run in the sea race.
March 24, 201511 yr I usually bash Loria relentlessly on his parsimonious ways. But I can see how a deal like Salty's would sour him on writing a "blank check" to try to fix a glaring hole through FA. A deal like Salty's would make any rational owner consider whether they want to throw a lot of money on a FA coming off an anomalous up year.
March 24, 201511 yr 19% CS last year with 72 steals against. Yeah, bad. What he was really really bad at was pitch framing. One of the worst in mlb last year.
March 24, 201511 yr Wow. What's John Buck up to these days? Maybe we can bring him back. Hell, I'd prefer JOE Buck as catcher over salty.
