I think Morse will be fine. Nice to see Bour doing what he's doing though.

it really is encouraging, but not expected. thought morse would have revved it up by now. think he is starting tomorrow?

but MORE OFTEN then not, I already know the outcome.

You mean the outcome that produces a .900 OPS?

Justin Nicolino

I guess he only has 28 AAA innings (28 magnificent PCL innings tho), but not really sure there's much more for him to prove in milb. So curious to see how his skill set translate to mlb. Give him TKs next start and move salad to the pen where he probably belongs.

Phone was off during the game but to see that we had first and second nobody out in the 9th only for Stanton to again strikeout on the same pitch and for Ozuna to still not have a home run, is pretty fucking frustrating.

This feels like the 5th time already this year Stanton has been the tying run in the 9th and he strikes out.

As I keep saying, he is too easy of an out sometimes. You would never see Miguel Cabrera swing at that. Stanton has the potential to be as good of a hitter as Cabrera with the way he can use all fields but he just doesn't seem to learn.

We're not denying that Stanton is an amazing talent and, at times, one of the best hitters in the game. However, he's been in the league for coming up on five years now. If the pitches were borderline, then fine, he swings and misses at that, it's just a good pitch. But these pitches are ending up a foot and a half outside. They're throwing it out there and saying "well if he swings, great, if he doesn't, well, not the worst thing in the world, try it again!"

He's been playing baseball professionally for almost eight years now, and he can't identify a slider when it's on the outside part of the plate. It's insane.

Uh oh, polly will be mad at you. I agree with you 100%. Thats why he is not worth the contract. Power hitter? Absolutely! Good hitter? No. Give me 8 dee gordons and im good to go.....

guys that i can think of that are both power and good hitters are the above mentioned miguel cabrera, matt holiday, and victor martinez to name 3 . My two cents.

If Stanton can keep his eye on the ball more, he'd be a much better hitter... Watch his face when he swings at those crappy sliders low and away, he is looking down the left field line before the bat is near the ball, how can you make contact like that?

Not worth the contract? Absolutely ridiculous. Go root for another team.  I guarantee Bender disagrees with you there. He's a 22 WAR player through age 25 which means he's already been worth over $100m to this organization. He will outproduce his contract with ease barring some horrific injury.

Stanton will be far superior to 2 out of 3 of those with ease (the other is one of the greatest hitters of the 21st century, which I fully expect stanton to be a part of). Holliday didn't break out until he was 26. V-mart played a completely different position so that's just an idiotic comparison, although Stanton blows him away offensively if you really wanna do that.

His k rate is up 3-4 % which is the only issue with Stanton I see which is a result of a slight increase in swinging at pitches outside the side. Niether of these is a pressing problem 120abs into a season where he is still around 880 ops or so (I know you disregard real stats that matter, like you know, OPS)

My 2 cents is your 2 cents is worth about $0.00

Bender does disagree and thinks that Stanton is worth the contract.

Just needa start producin', maaan.

Which ... I guess considering he leads the NL in RBI, I can't ask him to do much more than that. :lol

Just wanted to add, Koehler giving Harper anything to hit in his 3rd at bat was kinda annoying... Was it hubris? Or stupidity?

I feel like he pitched his way to the bottom of the starting pitching totem pole with today's performance.

And Stanton is good, BTW. Worth that ridiculous contract. Not only for his talent and skill, but for the stability he brings to our franchise... So give the guy a break when he doesn't hit a 3-run homer every time he comes to the plate.

A lot of hitters swing at low and away sliders with 2 strikes. That's the whole point of sliders low and away. Maybe if we had some pitchers who could strike people out you guys could see that... I'd like to see some piece of evidence that Stanton does that more often than anyone in his caliber rather than just heresay and what he did his last AB which is what a lot of this board makes their judements on

You get unnerved easily dont you?

It's not about the three-run homer every time he comes to the plate. It's about that he consistently, and in big situations, refuses to adjust to what the pitchers are throwing him and to what appears like the entire world knows is coming. It's not about the three-run homer every time he comes to the plate. Why he doesn't realize that they're going to continue expanding the zone is beyond me at this point. I love Stanton to death but enough is enough the guy needs to adjust he needs to lay off that pitch and if he does he can be the best hitter in the game. The scary hitters are the ones that you feel like no matter where you throw it they are either going to layoff or hit it.

The most frustrating part is that we all know the slider is coming and as said above, if these were actually good sliders it's one thing but it just looks like he's resigned to just flinging the bat with one hand.

I don't think anybody here is looking forward to a Stanton who hits a three run homeruns and then strikes out the other three times.

It's more so the fact that he's done this for five years with what appears to be no adjustment ever. He has to know by now that pitchers are going to be coming at him with that slider or curve [or on occasion, change-up] with two strikes.

THIS. jesus, for everyone here, read this paragraph. Some guys here on the board act like we curse the day he was born. This paragraph says it all. There is no criticism. Just pure facts, thank you michael.

Give me stats to support what you're saying (show me he does this more than trout, for instance). Why are you agreeing with these nitwits? I do this every year where I pull up Stanton's 840823103284230 OPS in high leverage situations and then they just ignore it (why do i even pull up stats?) and they cpntinue on their tyrades when he slumps for 20 ABs and shut up when he starts mashing again.

Judements.

hey guys guess what stanton is hitting with RISP this year? 343/405/609

How many times has he struck out with the game on the line? Where he can live up to that contract?

He is living up to it by a mile. He's already been worth $110m to the franchise and they've paid him what, $15-20m?

Not to mention Yelich doesn't sign here (and who knows who else in the future) without Stanton. Why don't you go root for the Tigers or Cardinals?

hey look I'll help you guys out, this year when the game is "late & close" he's OPSing at an atrocious .488. Last year that # was .932 in a much much higher sample size. So sure he sucks this year in those situations, but it's an historical anomaly.
