Prado and Realmuto are not holes.

First base yes and though Ozuna is hitting for s better average, he has really lost the power stroke which we need badly.

Also, our bench fucking sucks. Sola I has done absolutely nothing and though Mathis has done good work with pitchers we cannot afford to keep playing a black hole in a national league lineup, maybe in the American League you can hide his bag but there are games where he plays that the 7-9 hitters are practically automatic outs besides the rare occasion he or a pitcher get on base.

I think Bour can be solid but needs to adjust better. Would be nice to get Morse going.

This team is on its last straw they are back to 12 under with stiff competition. A week ago they were finishing a 5-1 homestand and are 1-5 since.

Don't get the love for Realmuto.  Does he have potential?  Yes.  But with the way this board talks about him he's definitely having the best .623 OPS season in the history of baseball.

And yes, Prado has not been good.  No power and he hasn't gotten on base at a good clip.  Look at the best lineups in the league and look at just how far we are away from being a competent lineup in so many way.  Power, plate discipline, situational hitting.  We have a horrible lineup compared to the best teams in the league and that is extremely hard to do when you have Stanton on your team.

Also our bench sans Solano is not bad.  We have a guy who crushes lefties in Baker, Bour when morse comes back should be on the bench, Ichiro still has a little left, Mathis is a great defender, and whichever of Prado/Dietrich is on the bench in a few weeks.  You're not gonna find many benches significantly better than that.  Our lineup sucks.

I've lost all faith in preseason predictions.

I agree. Looks like I'm going into next buying baseball preview magazines, and hyping myself up in the process of a great Marlins year

The "Mystery of the Marlins" ...

  • We have the MLB second-placed BA leader
  • We have the MLB second-placed base stealer
  • We have the MLB home run leader
  • We have the MLB RBI leader
  • We lead the MLB in fielding percentage

... and we're still fucking terrible.

it really has been ozuna and yelich not doing much more than hitting singles that has killed this team.  aren't we near the top for singles in MLB but last in XBH?  if ozuna and yelich performed like last season this team would have a whole different feel offensively.  the bench has a few nice parts like baker and ichiro and then black holes like solano and mathis (i don't care if he catches a nice game.  he is a TERRIBLE bat and any defense he provides is negated by the automatic out that he is).  the problems this year have been lack of extra base hits and our mediocre (or terrible since DJ likes to put the wrong people in in the wrong situations now) bullpen outside of capps and ramos.

Power:  So much more was expected of Ozuna and Morse. Incredible to waste the kind of power year Stanton is having. But its really not the lack of HR's that bothers me, Marlins Park will cut into that significantly. Its just that apart from Stanton you don't see anyone in the lineup who at least from time to time is driving the ball into the outfield alleys (Giancarlo drives them out). Where are the extra base hits?. Is Hech the best that we have in doing this? I'd probably say Deitrich now. Yelich, Ozuna, Prado, they're all singles hitters. I've seen Realmuto, even through most of the time he doesn't get rewarded, make better contact. Maybe, like last night, Ozuna and Yelich will start flashing a little more. I'm just sick of all the infield grounders.

Plate discipline: I know this is a free swinging team but the inability of most of the lineup to lay off of sliders low and away and breaking balls in the dirt is an epidemic. I've seen too many ball four swinging strike outs. What happened to Yelly's strike zone recognition? He'll usually lay off the best pitches he'll see in the zone, always the first pitch and often times the second pitch he sees, and in later counts you'll see him swinging at pitches low and out of the strike zone.

Situational hitting: If we're not the worst team in baseball at this, we're certainly in contention. It's been that way for a while. The Marlins do get guys on. Bases loaded or two men on, nobody out, lead off man triples or doubles, how often has nobody moved? I don't think of a big inning anymore, just hoping we can get a run across. How often has it been that the batter who makes the best contact is the one making the third out, with one or two unproductive outs, too frequently strike outs, preceding it?

It's frustrating baseball to watch.

Not really a mystery. The first 4 apply to only two players and Dee Gordon is regressing.

WHY DO AMERICANS NOT GET IRONY??!?!?!???!!1!

Not really ironic. You were citing how the Marlins have players leading in so many offensive categories, but the truth is that it's only two players in the lineup and one of them is starting to come back down to earth.

It would be ironic if you posted offensive team statistics rather than individual ones. Marlins are 10th (of 15) in HR, 12th in RBI, 10th in OPS. It's not a catastrophically bad offense, but it is a below average one.

The irony was "The Mystery of the Marlins". It was even in speech marks to make it easier. The irony was that the statistics listed proved that there is no mystery, as it only cited two players and defense. Everyone knows the rest of the line up, starting pitching and relief pitching has been extremely poor.

I'll provide diagrams next time.

You Brits make no sense.

Dictionary definition:

irony1 ˈʌɪrəni/ noun noun: irony

the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.

Therefore: meaning "The Mystery of the Marlins"

The stats produced then signified the opposite - that there is no mystery i.e. we have two stellar players, good defense and fuck all else.

It's really not that hard.
