June 29, 201511 yr I definitely don't think you get a ML ready #3 in exchange for Ozuna. Yelich, maybe.
June 29, 201511 yr The bad news is 1B though. Morse looks like a sunken cost and I'm not a believer in Bour. But our hands are kind of tied there. Good thing they let Mark Canha go since they had such depth at 1b! I mean he sort of sucks too but at least it's another body they could've thrown in the mix. And yeah Bour's fading fast. I should probably stop beating that drum, it just irritates me.
June 29, 201511 yr Considering Cole Gillespie is currently our back up OFer, yeah, the Canha thing just looks worse and worse and worse. Also feel bad for Shoemaker, as this probably was his shot at the majors if he wasn't injured. I know I'm pretty much alone on this, but I think DD should got a shot at 1B. Most people would be against it because of more 'value' at 2b/3b, but his defense is so bad at those positions that I think he actually has less value there. And left handed power is something this line up really needs.
June 29, 201511 yr I think it makes more sense for Dietrich to be at 1st than 2nd or 3rd, but I'm not really sold on his bat overall. I've never been a fan of his for that reason. He appears to have value at 2B because he hits for power, but his defense is so atrocious. At the same time, I don't see his bat being good enough for an "easier" position like 1B.
June 29, 201511 yr I am actually cool with a rotation of Fernandez/Alvarez/Cosart/Nicolino/Urena going into 2016.
June 29, 201511 yr At the same time, I don't see his bat being good enough for an "easier" position like 1B. Oh I do agree with that. But our hands are likely tied to in-house options because of Morse's contract. And I believe in DD more than Bour. But yeah, neither should really be starters. Ideally, Morse starts being good again. But considering the fact he has a sub-500 OPS in AAA with no XBH, no walks, and striking out in half his plate appearances...doesn't look likely. So ride Bour/DD/whoever on the minimum for 2016 and fix it in 2017.
June 29, 201511 yr I haven't really studied Morse's peripherals or anything, but I'm not inclined to think that Morse is about to turn the corner. It's not like he has a very long track record of consistency or solid performance. He has only 3 seasons where he has had 400 PA or more. I don't think he's a .557 OPS bat either, but it's not out of the question that he's hit a wall at 33. He sucked in 2013 for what it's worth, but some of that might have been injury.
June 29, 201511 yr One of the main things about 2013 was his BABIP was 80 points under his career number. He was still hitting for power then, at least. While his BABIP is also low this year, the biggest issue is the lack of power - his .078 ISO is that of a slap hitter. And going further into that is the fact his GB% is up 10%. Less fly balls = less XBH. But I don't know how many battled balls is needed for GB% to normalize. So could just be a really bad 150 PA.
June 30, 201511 yr Considering Cole Gillespie is currently our back up OFer, yeah, the Canha thing just looks worse and worse and worse. I'm totally fine giving DD a shot at 1b if Morse can't get it together.
June 30, 201511 yr Hey @Fotog let me ask you a question because you're gonna take the brunt of my frustrations over that thinking. I see it too much. How the hell is the record this year due to Loria being cheap in 2015?????? He gave Stanton the biggest contract EVER in U.S. Sports history. He made a large commitment to Yelich. He spent for Morse, Ichiro, Prado and Latos. He offered the most for Shields who took less to play closer to home. Which FA should he have signed his offseason? And don't just tell me it's due to us having the lowest payroll. Answer that question please. Because as we've seen before, Loria gets pissed off, and sells off.....he then goes cheap. Happened after 2005, and then again after 2012. I will hedge my bets next season's payroll will go down - AGAIN. For all the "extra" money he spent this year, we STILL have the lowest payroll. Either "A" he is just cheap, or "B" he doesn't have the money to be in this game. Meanwhile, he gets what he pays for....headed for a probable 4th place finish in the NL East, and 3rd or 4th worst record in baseball. We also have the "average" MLB ticket price at $28.96 and the MLB average is $ 28.94. Now he has the audacity to charge average ticket prices, yet hasn't put a winner on the field but once since he opened the new stadium, and has kept the payroll the lowest in MLB. Miami is rated as one of the poorest communities in the nation, yet he charges average prices, for a bad product, with a poor community, and then can't sell tickets.....the franchise with this owner is just not viable. He claimed he needed a new stadium and that everything would change. Please tell me what has changed ? We still have a craphole cheap team that doesn't win games. Add to everything else, the man is a walking PR nightmare.....when you do a poll in Miami and you are neck & neck in the poll with Fidel Castro,......Houston we have a problem. Everyone here hates him.
June 30, 201511 yr Hey I asked you a question which you ignored, just spending money to spend it doesn't do anything. Which FA this past off-season should have Loria signed? And you are just now predicting the future and incorrectly I may add. There's not much Loria could "sell off" even if he wanted to this year. Wake up and stop just blind hating.
June 30, 201511 yr Hey I asked you a question which you ignored, just spending money to spend it doesn't do anything. Which FA this past off-season should have Loria signed? Admin I am not qualified to be a GM for a MLB team. However if I was an owner, and in 14 seasons, basically have the same front office (Hill & Jennings minus Beinfest for the last 2 seasons), which has produced 5 straight losing seasons (probably will be a 6th), only 5 winning seasons in 14 years, I'd have cleared everyone out. I may not be as expert as a lot of posters on this board in the intricacies & minutiae about the workings of an MLB franchise, but I am Joe Q Public, and we are not buying what Loria is selling, and that is it period. I truly believe that Dan Jennings is the Marlins manager because NO ONE WANTED THE JOB. Yes it is one of only 30, but its such a bad job, with a bad owner, and no real hope of getting better soon, even with 2 of MLB's brightest young stars, that NO ONE wants the job. Defend him and this front office all you wish, but the numbers are staggering as to how bad of an owner Loria has been and how his team has failed on the field & in attendance. It's not because Miami is a bad baseball town, it's because in its history since Loria has owned the Marlins, they have been one of the worst run organizations in MLB, if not the very worst. The numbers do not lie.....
June 30, 201511 yr You can't answer the question because the answer is no other FA signings would've made sense. Spending money just to spend it is dumb. And nobody was offered the job besides DJ. Other managers would've taken it. You're not stupid, you're just ignorant about this.
June 30, 201511 yr Also @Fotog, please don't tell me you'll be one of those fans yelling "fire sale" when the fish trade Latos and Haren.
June 30, 201511 yr Also @Fotog, please don't tell me you'll be one of those fans yelling "fire sale" when the fish trade Latos and Haren. No, I agree this year is done, sell them off. My main point is, THE FRONT OFFICE IS INCOMPETENT ! If Loria really is committed to winning, staying with the same people that haven't delivered for 14 seasons, is not a smart move and spend money !

If Loria really is committed to winning, staying with the same people that haven't delivered for 14 seasons, is not a smart move and spend money ! You aren't saying how that money should have been spent this past off-season still. Would you have wanted him to outbid for Panda? Scherzer?
July 7, 201510 yr You aren't saying how that money should have been spent this past off-season still. Would you have wanted him to outbid for Panda? Scherzer? And I told you I am not qualified to make those decisions, but I am smart enough to know, that this formula is not working, for whatever reasons, and that changes need to be made. Admin you can defend Loria & this front office till the cows come home, but the numbers DON'T LIE. Last almost every year in payroll, and the longest streak running of not making the playoffs. If you can't see a correlation between the two, then I guess you are never going to see it. Not changing the front office completely in all those years, is madness. It's not working, so try something else and really become committed to winning at least once. I mean it can't be because you are losing money. We know they are making insane profits from the deadspin articles, and they have been stockpiling money for at least 8 years (only spent money once 2012). This is suicide of this franchise. I also blame MLB as much as Loria. I think they just don't give a rats ass about the market down here, or something would have been done by now. Pressure to get Loria out would have been applied.
July 7, 201510 yr lol I love how Loria haters just tell me I'm defending him and ignore the questions I ask. It never stops.
July 7, 201510 yr Admin doesn't defend Loria. Admin brings up logical questions when Loria is illogically blamed for everything.
July 7, 201510 yr IDK I have a source that says Admin is actually on the marlins payroll...Just sayin
