Giancarlo Stanton Placed on 15-day DL

Wow, and I was just about to purchase a month of MLB.tv so I could watch the games while I'm on vacation next month.

I'm cancelling my subscription. This was the last straw!

Not going to watch Fernandez return next week?

yeah trade one of our best relievers and Stanton's best friend and roommate.

It might be the smart thing to do depending on the return. Look at what happened to Cishek.

Except the Dolphins  have a viable shot at a Super Bowl this year.

lololololololololtrollolololololol

Not sure why I got a downvote for my comment on Ramos, but whatever.

For what it's worth, I'd keep Ramos because he's good and still cheap next year, but you don't know what he's worth on the trade market right now. We're 30-45. No reliever should be untouchable, and that includes Capps.

What if a team offers a 1B/3B who can play next year for Ramos or Capps? You have to take that, I don't care who the reliever is.

Good news is he still has a good chance to break the single season Marlin HR record. *shrugs*

doubt that's happening but sure, gotta listen.

I'm just sad at this point that Stanton misses the ASG and Derby.  And if course would've been cool to see what the HR total would be with a full season.

Of course. No reliever is worth more than an above average position player. Kimbrel and Chapman put up about 3 WAR in a good season, Martin Prado, in the midst of a down year due to his predictable decline, was on pace for about the same before his injury.

I've forgotten more about the Marlins than you ever will learn.

Ok, Cardinals "fan."

Serious question...maybe this deserves to be its own topic...what do the Marlins needs to be contenders?

No outrageous trades...be reasonable. To be contenders in 2016...what needs to happen? Who needs to go? What minor leaguers need to pan out? What Free Agents need to adorn the Cuban Rainbow?

There are 5 guys that have too much value to the club not to be traded. Those are fernandez, Stanton, Yelich, Gordon, Ozuna. Everyone else should be available. Looking to recreate our team. We just don't have the depth at any position or the talent at any position to be picky. We are a poorly run franchise and if we want to become something more similar to the Cubs/Athletics/Royals you have to rebuild.

Honestly, just reliable starting pitching and out offense to play like it should. Gordon and Stanton have been fine, but Yelich, Ozuna and Morse have all played well under expectations this year, and the starting rotation has been a disabled mess that when healthy has been below mediocre.  Get those three playing at the level that they should be and our offense would be fine, IMHO.  The big thing is the Rotation. With Fernandez and Alverez eventually coming back, we have a great #1 and a good #2-3, but after that not much (Haren makes a good #4, but I'm not sure if he'll be staying past this year). If good Latos has in fact returned, then he can take that #4-5 spot, but we still need another pitcher, and honestly I needs to be one on the high end, and maybe one more to round out the rotation.

Fixed.

Marlins are perfect without solano. Without hand, maybe we will be perfect, but win our games convincingly as well.

Are there any CONSISTENT power bats hitting free agency this offseason that we can make a run at to provide support to Stanton in 2016?

Just thinking out loud here... Imagine if the Marlins were able to piece it together the next month and then get Stanton back strong. Might make for a decent September actually. Not the playoff run we expected but we could hopefully at least be one of those teams that has a nice end to the year to build to 2016.

As for the trade deadline... Gotta hope they don't mistakenly pick up a Carlos Lee veteran type right fielder in an attempt to salvage this season. Without giving up hope on the field, the focus of the front office off the field should already be on 2016, and beyond really.
