September 8, 201511 yr They need two SP, help at 1B, a 4th OF, and lefty relievers before upgrading a RHP bullpen spot from Barraclough/Ellington. Who are both pretty good and more than enough behind Ramos, Capps, and Morris. I understand value is relative and Chapman is really good, but they have bigger problems. It would be pretty embarrasing to get Chapman and have a 3-4-5 or Koehler, Phelps, and Nicolino.
September 8, 201511 yr Their offseason goal list includes 2 SP among other things. no way they are interested in Latos right?
September 8, 201511 yr Besides being lackluster on the mound, Latos is a clubhouse problem. At least we got to experience 3 months of that and it only cost us Disco.
September 8, 201511 yr A year ago I thought the Latos clubhouse problems were overblown and *maybe* he just had legitimate disagreements in previous locations. But this year he's proven otherwise. Two fresh new teams for him and he pisses them both off in under two months each. At this point, with his production now being more than questionable, I'm shocked he finds work anymore. If Casey McGehee can keep find work with his great clubhouse presence, how can a guy with such utterly horrible clubhouse presence keep getting so much work?
September 8, 201511 yr If we can get Chapman for the price of a great reliever and stretch him out into a starter i would do it in a second. Isn't he a former starter in Cuba? If we could get him at a discount because he is only a reliever and then turn him into our #2 starter i would try and do that in a second.
September 8, 201511 yr Their offseason goal list includes 2 SP among other things. I was thinking about this yesterday and yes, 2 SP would make a huge difference in this team. I think this has to be priority number 1.

September 8, 201511 yr No idea if they're thinking more towards free agency or trades? Or is it more by any means necessary? Hopefully money, as long as it's within reason, isn't a big obstacle.

September 8, 201511 yr The team really needs 3 more new SPs. Yes but realistically upgrading 3/5ths of your rotation in one offseason is difficult, even if money wasn't a factor. So I'd be thrilled if we were able to get 2.
September 8, 201511 yr That's why I think you might just see Tier 2 type pitchers that they go after. Wonder if they try to go after Shields with the Padres and take on that salary. Probably what the Padres are looking for most.
September 8, 201511 yr I could see the Marlins trying to get creative for Shields but I doubt they take all that salary. Though, considering they offered even more to him last offseason, they might take a lot of it. It'd be pretty funny to see Shields' reaction being traded here though, after turning us down to be closer to home, and also he'd be playing for less than if he would have just signed here to begin with.
September 8, 201511 yr I think 2 is realistic with the marlins limitations. For sure. My big fear is that one of them will be Fister which Scoop keeps referencing. Fister is so bad.
September 8, 201511 yr Oh you know it. It will be zimmerman and fister or similar, and the marlins will parade them around like we just sign 2 cy youngs. Zimmerman will get injured or catch vertigo, and fister will be himself. Both will be traded at the deadline, and we will be back in the same place next season. #marlinsway I'd actually be okay with Zimmerman. Fister is absolutely done though. Velocity tanked and just really really bad. This year is not an aberration.
September 8, 201511 yr I want Price and Zimmerman. Zimmerman and Mike Leake (assuming they don't super move in the fences) is probably more feasible. Wish we could get one of those young celeveland SPs for Ozuna
September 8, 201511 yr Ian Kennedy would be great in marlins park and he actually strikes guys out We don't like that. We like Urena and his (nearly) identical K/9 and BB/9!
