I think this team has a pretty overall positive outlook for next year obviously depending on Giancarlo's health and the health of the rotation (Jose). Thats kinda weird for a team coming off a disastrous year.  I think we should go all in and hope that Cueto's struggles in the second half of the year will bring his price tag down a little bit to something reasonable for us and then try and trade Ozuna for Carlos Carrasco as was being rumored at the deadline.  Make a couple of depth signings that are actually quality and not just random retread veterans and find a competent manager and we have a good looking team for next year.

You also have a wild card in Henderson Alvarez.

 

Out of the bullpen, Capps, Ramos, Barraclough, and a bunch of other guys obviously.

 

I would trade Koehler and see if you could get a quality bat off the bench.

 

Gordon, Yelich, Stanton, Bour, Prado, Dietrich, Relamuto, Hech  is good if everyone is healthy.  Maybe sign a power bat.

 

I like Rojas as a great fielder off the bench.  Also I haven't seen Telis play at all but if he can't hit for the love of god please don't bring back Jeff Mathis for another year his hitting is just too bad to handle.  Get a good 4th outfielder for Koehler and we can be a bad team if we could stop being dysfunctional for 162 games.

 

 

We're definitely not getting Carrasco for Ozuna. I doubt those rumors had any truth to them at the time. The Indians would have to be very dumb to do such a thing.

I would love to get Salazar or someone like him, but I don't see that happening either. Unlike the Marlins, other teams pay attention to advanced metrics.

I actually like our bats outside of Ozuna.  I wouldn't mind keeping him either and just signing 2 guys.  I think this year was just a complete disaster but at the end of the day guys are getting their numbers up to where you want them to be on a yearly basis for the most part.  

 

Stanton obviously need to stay healthy but he's great.  Yelich outside of his lower back issues has been what you expect.  Dietrich can flat out hit and is a valuable guy to have on the team.  Gordon if he can keep up the OBP is what we want from our leadoff guy.  Realmuto impressed me a lot and as a long term starter is a very intriguing guy as far as what he can do from the catchers position.  I wouldn't mind an improvement if we can find something on Prado but that is easier said than done.  I don't know why it took falling to 27 games under for him to perform like we expected but his numbers turned out to be relatively OK.  Ill take a .732 OPS from him if it was a more consistent .732 OPS.  Thats not great but its gonna be hard to improve on that unless you're willing to give Dietrich the 3rd base job. 

 

Overall I like our bats but we could obviously use a big bat.

Samardzija is going to be at a discount price this offseason. Take out those god awful games and consider a move back to the National League and I think he'd be a successful #2 again. I can imagine him taking a 1/2 year deal in kind of a "show me" kind of way. For us to succeed we need to find some value players. Samardzija's peripherals still suggest he's a decent pitcher and he still regularly goes deep into starts. I truly believe whoever signs him this offseason will be very happy.

 

As for Zimmermann, I definitely expect to be outbid and not get him. But I don't expect him to command too crazy of a price tag and he's a hell of a pitcher when he doesn't give up home runs.

 

These are just the two I've decided are value picks this year as opposed to just projecting the top tier guys who other teams will throw the bank at. I also think both guys are #2 pitchers when they are at their best. Get them, match them with Koehler and whoever wins that 5th rotation spot out of the mess of #5 starters we have, and I think we're a lot closer to a .500+ record than we were this year.

I really doubt Samadzija is going for a 1 year deal. Some team out there will over pay for him, his agency will get it done. Kazmir would be nice, but he probably like to stay with Houston and someone close to home. Zimmerman is going to command a lot, whoever they go after I hope it works out in the end.

 

Ozuna should not be traded, value is low and what we are paying him next year I am sure he will want to get back to hitting how he was last year. Yelich came back strong, really hoping he finishes near .300 that would be nice. JT has been a bright spot, one spot I think the Marlins are overlooking is getting a good backup catcher. Rojas has been holding it down since Hech has been on the DL, and Prado has been stepping up in the 3 hole. Valencia would have been nice to platoon with Bour. Who knows maybe they revisit that this year.

 

 

Of course Ozuna "shouldn't" be traded considering his value and potential to rebound but, as has been said before, who the hell else can we trade for our starting pitching needs? I'm so worried about free agency that I don't know the right solution to the pitching problems. We aren't gonna outbid anyone for a top tier guy (nor should we really) and we might end up with the scraps that lead to the same mediocrity after Jose.

 

 

I meant we shouldn't outbid anyone in the sense of astronomically overpaying some clown just to say we got a big name SP. Reasonable high priced offers? Go for it. Stupid contracts we'll later regret? No thanks.

Yelich performance with RISP disappointing notwithstanding BA and OPS. Ozuna in the same boat. Part of why this team has sucked all year long in scoring runs. Bour and more recently Prado have been carrying the team in that area. Stanton will do the heavy lifting when he returns in 2016 but more dependable run producing from Yelich and Ozuna (or his replacement) is a dire need.
