I like this years selections, but they will have to pay over slot to get the Vandy recruits, which they seem reluctant to do.

Have to wonder if this part of their draft strategy (drafting really good players with no intention of actually signing)?

The Marlins have made significant progress in locking up their high-round Draft picks. The club has reached agreement, pending physicals, with six of their first 11 choices: right-hander Sam Perez (fifth round), outfielder Corey Bird (seventh), outfielder Aaron Knapp (eighth), catcher Jarett Rindfleisch (ninth), left-hander Dylan Lee (10th) and right-handerChad Smith (11th).

Nothing is close at this time with the Marlins' first-round pick, left-hander Braxton Garrettfrom Florence, Ala., the seventh overall selection. But the club is hopeful an agreement will be reached prior to the July 15 deadline for all teams to sign their picks.

Outfielder Thomas Jones, taken in the third round from Laurens, S.C., also remains unsigned. Garrett and Smith both have commitments to attend Vanderbilt University.

Garrett is represented by agent Scott Boras, who tends to wait toward the deadline before finalizing deals. The recommended bonus for the seventh pick is $3,756,300. For Jones' slot, the 84th pick overall, the bonus is $741,700.

Outfielder Sean Reynolds from Redondo Union High School in California, a fourth-rounder, is close to finalizing a deal for $600,000. The paperwork has not been finalized.

Sixth-rounder Remey Reed, a right-hander from Oklahoma State, is set to play in the College World Series.

Once the six players whose deals are pending physicals are signed, they will report to the Roger Dean Stadium complex in Jupiter, Fla. From there, Miami's college Draft signings traditionally advance as high as Class A Greensboro.

Im guessing they are going to have to go over slot to sign Garrett....

I'm going to assume those are typos.  They probably signed for $100 K and $200 K.

Any progress on Garrett? I noticed he's the only player taken in the top 10 not to sign, Quantrill got $3.9, so I cant see him signing for less the $4 milllion

My understanding is that we are very unlikely to sign him and that we were unlikely to sign him from the start. I hope things change, but with Boras as his agent, I doubt it. Because we didn't have a second round pick (Chen) we didn't have much flexibility to pay over the slot price. If we are unable to sign him, we would get the #8 pick in next year's draft. And that unknown player is probably our #1 prospect.

Deadline is tomorrow correct?  Is it at midnight tonight or is at the end of the day tomorrow?  Can't find any news anywhere.  I found some things online from 3 or 4 days ago but it really doesn't say anything we don't already know.

I don't get it.  How can someone pass up 3 million plus to go to college where they can get hurt and fuck themselves over.  Even the best of prospects bust.  There is no guarantee of success for anyone.  Boras is a self serving prick.  I would never wish injury on someone (Except maybe Lebron) but if this kid gets hurt in college ..... well , let's just hope he knows what he is doing.

99% sure the deadline is at midnight tonight and Braxton still should sign

3rd rounder Thomas Jones has signed.  $1 million bonus.  He was also a Vandy commit.

I assume that Garrett will be next.
