I think it comes down to lack of focus and some bad luck.

When Fernandez gives up 6 earned runs with his ability, he's not focused. Plain and simple.

Or it's as simple as distraction from strange road trim.

The seven runs were inconsequential because the team has the inability to score runs when they have the bases loaded. This start aside from the deciding freeman homer should be swept under the rug.

The notion that Don should have sent Jose home early last night and that's why we lost today... its mind boggling. Besides the fact it means we likely lose last night too, do you think Jose would have went to sleep? He would've been watching the game on TV anyway.

Agreed. It baffles me the people that want to put Jose struggling on Don and the AB the night before. Jose has a bad start and that is on him and not Mattingly.

If I was sent back to my hotel room early I'd use the time to vigorously masturbate, so that's probably what he would have done too.

*Insert awkward Preston Wilson laugh*

I might be stepping into something here, but why all the hate for Preston Wilson? Is it because folks liked Hutton (including myself) and so there is resentment towards the trio of replacement announcers? Or is it Preston being bad? The guy grew up in a baseball family and was an extremely successful player - so there is no arguing the fact that he knows a ton about baseball and certainly has a lifetime of baseball anecdotes to share. He is far from a polished broadcaster, obviously. But that's what Waltz offers. His partner for each game offers insight from three players who had long careers and who had lived through the process of being in the majors instead of just covering it. None of the three have pleasant, typical broadcast voices, and none of the three are refined speakers, but why the hate?

Got it. I guess I look at it differently. I don't view his job as being your typical analyst. I view him as being a guy Waltz can bounce ideas and thoughts off of who Marlins fans know and like and who can explain some of the idiosyncrasies involved with the game - like how a batter may approach a certain pitcher or how far a baserunner should take a secondary lead in certain situations. Plus he can share interesting personal stories about his time (and growing up) in the game. Same with Perez. And Lieter can do it from a pitcher's perspective (despite the obvious need to repair a deviated septum).

He has zero chemistry with Waltz. He also offers zero insight. For coming from a "baseball family" he contributes nothing. He sucks at explaining the nuances of the game and just resorts to platitudes about players having "intensity." It's superficial garbage.

He also says a lot of stuff that is factually wrong about players.

Yeah Preston talks out of his ass a lot. And to be honest yes as a former player that does give him a certain unique insight but he also does a shit job of wording things as well. the time we had a ninth inning rally going and we had guys on base and I believe Yelich was hitting and Preston said "i'd rather see a single instead of a home run here because a home run stops the rally and a single keeps the rally alive" man that summed Preston up for me.
