July 9, 201610 yr Big Jeff Mathis fan over here I'd probably rather have Chris Johnson catch than Tomas Telis in a pinch.
July 9, 201610 yr Author I'd probably rather have Chris Johnson catch than Tomas Telis in a pinch. Man wait til @Hammerhead sees this
July 9, 201610 yr Man wait til @Hammerhead sees this I dont care. I cant believe that he has magically learned how to be a decent receiver since he was acquired by the Marlins. He is a punch and judy hitter, who makes contact (but never been proven at the big league level), doesnt walk and doesnt really have a ton of power. I mean they should have called him up over Don Kelly to play 1b, but its Mike Hill we are talking about so well you know...
July 9, 201610 yr Telis is a bad defender behind the plate. His limited offensive upside is not MLB worthy at any position other than back up catcher. So, that doesn't seem to add up. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app

Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app well he is probably a better hitter than Don Kelly, tbh. so there is that.
July 9, 201610 yr Maybe, but Kelly plays all 4 infield positions and plays them well. He had a hit tonight and a loud out. He's also a great clubhouse guy. Mets lost. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app
July 9, 201610 yr Author He's not exactly a top prospect but he's a very solid B type. We wouldn't have given up Dyson for him otherwise. You obviously have not been following this front office for the past few years. They've done a pretty deplorable job in drafting and trades

July 9, 201610 yr When I saw Don Kelly in the line-up, I wondered if Stanton could ever play 1B in a pinch and have Ichy in RF, or something like that. Just a thought.
July 9, 201610 yr You obviously have not been following this front office for the past few years. They've done a pretty deplorable job in drafting and trades You know, we keep knocking the front office year after year, and yet here we are with a pretty good team with arguably the best outfield in baseball, a solid infield, good defense and the best bullpen in the NL (and would be the best in the majors if Capps were healthy). This team is also set up pretty damn well for the future. Sooo either the front office has just gotten incredibly lucky (not likely), or they are not as bad as Marlins fans make them out to be (more likely). Say whatever you want, but they are doing something right.

July 9, 201610 yr Nicolino is really just garbage. Its not even about fastball velocity anymore. He's been sitting 89-91 and topping at 92. His stuff is just straight up shit and his control is shit too. Control doesn't mean throwing everything down the middle. With Nicolino, you never know when he just going to go off the rails and get wrecked. His control isn't bad. But when you're throwing 89-91, it has to be impeccable to be successful. See some of Joses fastballs/curveballs tonight as an example of why control doesn't matter as much for him
July 9, 201610 yr for debate, if you would make nicolino a reliever, who would you rather have: Dunn or Nicolino?
July 9, 201610 yr for debate, if you would make nicolino a reliever, who would you rather have: Dunn or Nicolino? Dunn easily
July 9, 201610 yr Nicolino vs lefties 17.2 IP 16 hits 1 HR 2 BB 11K .254 avg 1.02 whip 1.73 GO/AO Dunn vs lefties 6 IP 7 hits 2 HR 2BB 3 K .318 avg 1.5 whip 0.09 GO/AO Ill take Nico
July 9, 201610 yr I'd take every righty in our pen, including Ellington, over either Dunn and Nico against a lefty. I also agree that the front office has made a lot of very good moves, especially considering the cheap owner. Maybe I am missing something with Telis, but the guy is a poor defender with no power or speed. Makes good contact. So, what will that translate into at the bigs? I guess back up catcher if his defense improves. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app

July 9, 201610 yr Telis is a better hitter than Mathis. I am a believer in infield defense though. Having a good infield defense is much easier than improving your entire pitching staff. I am pulling for Telis. He's a good hitter for a back up catcher. The question is whether he can actually be a back up catcher. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app

July 9, 201610 yr Because at the MLB level we have an incredible, young OF. We have a great young catcher. We have an above average, young middle infield. Bour is the real deal and also young. Jose is young and elite. The pen is very strong and includes some young arms (hopefully Capps). It comes down to starting pitching and reloading the minors while these guys are signed. Sent from my iPhone using MarlinsBaseball.com mobile app well they arent getting ozuna signed for a team friendly deal. prado isnt young. bour isnt exactly young. they have dick for depth, especially in said outfield. they have even less than dick for depth in the starting rotation, as shown this year. they have an owner who is a cheap bastard, maybe he will open his wallet this winter for a starter, oh wait, they all kinda suck this winter. they have a general manager who fucking sucks at the draft. ya, i'm not convinced.

They opened up their wallets for Stanton, Yelich and Gordon. Maybe they pay for Ozuna, too. 2. Cool. Prado isn't young, as if every other roster in baseball doesn't have a veteran or two in its lineup. 3. Bour is 28. He's not old. 4. You keep talking about "depth." First of all, "depth" is incredibly overrated. When you have to use depth, it means you have injury problems and probably aren't going anywhere. Second, who gives a shit about outfield depth when two-thirds of the outfield is already locked up and there is a chance they re-sign Ozuna? 5. The FO did open their wallets for a SP this past winter, but I'm sure you'll play Mr. Hindsight as usual and talk about what a bad deal Chen was. But yeah. Again, we get it. You hate the Marlins FO and will refuse to give them credit for anything. Cool.
July 9, 201610 yr You made the same mistake I've made here in the past. You'll now be labeled a Loria lover like I was You know what the best part is, Admin? The Athletics do the EXACT same thing the Marlins do. They develop young talent, trade them off for spare parts and then proceed to trade those spare parts off for more spare parts later on. They don't extend their best players and they also refuse to open up their wallets to sign any major free agents. But when the Athletics do it, it's "MONEY BALL!" When the Marlins do it, it's "LOL MARLINS!" The main difference? The Marlins have actually won two World Series while the Billy Beane A's have made it out of the first round once. But hooray for double standards!

Also ban yourself @Admin you pig. One point though, the marlins did offer Ozuna a great contract that he/boras refused so w/e. IMO he should be traded for a front line SP to pair with Jose and we should sign a high profile pricey FA OFer for 2017 While FO did open their wallet, we're still last in baseball in payroll. I actually think we have great OF depth esp with ichiro hitting like this. Don't get that one. Our SP is another story and a borderline disaster really. It's amazing they've skirted to 5 games over .500 with the mess they throw out there 40% of the time to start games.
