Giancarlo Stanton's HR Derby will prove costly for Marlins due to a promo offer

I'm guessing this is for full season plans?

I didn't get this offer in my email even though I believe I'm signed up as a Marlins Insider or something. I don't have season tickets.

According to ESPN they are now backing out of it and saying it's only 25% off. Although they are "working" on making one game 61% off.

Sounds like they are doing it.

Apparently the offer last night was run through MLB which operates the site and their rules are the offer can't be for more than 25% off.  So bad job by the team for not noting that on the original email...but to make up for it, the Marlins are running a new promo honoring the 61% off prices for the 7/29 game.  So at least they did a good job correcting the issue quickly.

Ah that makes sense. I'll hold my breath while ESPN clarifies their report.

Yup...and the rest of the games remain 25% off.  I'm sure they have been burned by promos like this before and MLB capped it.  I guess a single game offer is fine for this sort of thing, but when you do it for multiple games, you run the risk of really ticking off season ticket holders.

The article I read on ESPN last night mentioned the hiccup with MLB

Good

Good on the Marlins to still do a game with the 61% off discount.

Maybe Loria and friends aren't that bad after all......

They're offering the 61% discount on the day Dee Gordon comes back

Loving that, outside of not clarifying the 25% limit, this isn't on the Marlins, it's on MLB yet the Marlins swooped in to save face with the one 61% game. awesome all around. Hopefully the media reports this the same way and doesn't make this sound like a Loria Samson dick move.

The more asses in seats the more $$$$ the Marlins make.

$44 for 2 pizzas and two beers. They're making $$$ just fine.

Plus parking

I hope they sell that July 29 day out. That would be amazing momentum heading into the deadline

Do you guys know where you can redeem this? Can I just purchase it through marlins.com?

And Ichiro could very well be right around 3000

Timing is actually wonderful for casual fans too in the sense that now is when they start caring about the standings. Doing this in, say May, doesn't have as much impact. And as a coworker told me today when he heard about the tickets "Oh perfect, and aren't they in the playoff hunt?". People will go for the deal and will stay interested because of their place in the standings. Perfect storm to gain momentum in the public eye for the second half. Man what G did yesterday is huge in so many ways. Love it.

Good marketing by the team, doubt they are surprised about it being 61% off, they must've anticipated Stanton could hit around 40 so the extra amount is no big deal. Its a cheap ad in the end.

Imagine how many people in marketing for both the Marlins and MLB shit their pants when G hit 24 in the first round alone.

With the amount of money he was potentially gonna cost them, they should take better care of their pants

I have season tickets and I didn't get this email.

It wasn't a season ticket holder thing because I got the email and I'm not a season ticket holder

They make this plan due to the six HRs production in Stanton's last HR derby.

Sounds like they are doing it.

How they do if G hits 100 HRs.
