What could we get for him right now? I think our bullpen would be fine without him the rest of the way and he could potentially address some needs.

The Pirates (also in contention) traded Melancon today and got a good lefty reliever in the deal + another pitcher for the farm system. Due to salary and control, I'm guessing Ramos would have better trade value than Melancon.

He is a hugeee piece of our bullpen. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable in saying that the pen would be fine without him the rest of the way.

Tough decision right there, unless he brings a legit, currently good 2/3. Not a used to be good 2/3 (Cashner)

Not sure if I think he should be traded.  I know he gives us a heart attack almost every save, I don't think Rodney can fill the position as consistent as AJ.  At times it seems overkill to have both, but if we do make a playoff run, we are going to need both!

If we could get a Rivero type and a better secondary piece (like a young pitcher capable of pitching in our rotation right now), it's a no-brainer IMO.

Rodney/Barraclough/Wittgren/Phelps is still a pretty good backend. Not to mention, Ellington should be just fine too if they give him the chance.

It'd be interesting to sell high on a player for a change.

Ramos is a great piece to dangle to teams in the offseason. Closers are netting top prospects these days and Ramos is now an all star at that.

I also see Barraclough as a guy who can close and do so successfully. Rodney has history doing it and Phelps is a top notch 7th/8th inning guy. Wittgren is damn close to being that too.

Team needs to replenish the farm outside of the eventual Jose Fernandez trade. Ramos is great but this is the highest his value will ever be. Marlins would be dumb not to put him out there to see his value when the season ends.

Wouldn't say the team is dumb. They've made plenty of mistakes but moves like getting the bullpen fixed by late April, holding onto Ozuna when everyone wanted him traded (same for prado and dietrich), getting bour in the rule v minors draft, getting yelich signed to a hugely team friendly deal and many other moves have this team in a wild card spot today.

Are there huge flaws with the long term prospects of the team? Many of which due to poor trades, signings, drafting, etc...? Yes, but they've done enough to be good in 2016. Better than what they've done in seven years.

Well said.

If they didn't trade Capps it would have been a no brainer to trade Ramos in the offseason for some top prospects. I'd still do it but it could give the FO some hesitation.

How about Barraclough trade? Signing McGehee from Japan and then trading him for Castillo and Flores? Drafting Lomo and dealing him for Capps? Drafting and converting JT from infielder to catcher? Drafting Jose, Yelich, Stanton, Ozuna, Ramos, etc? The Prado/Phelps deal? The Dee trade? Ichiro signing? It's amazing how much hate there is for a front office who has a manager who won't spend money like most teams and yet has built a really nice team. Of course people will play the results of Rea's injury regarding the trade, but Miami saw some approach/pitch selection/pitch location flaws which they thought with simple tweaks could really help Rea. The 3 innings was too short of a sample size to know, but he clearly has/had stuff to be a cog in our rotation for next 5 years.
