How much would Loria spend to make the ASG season become the first playoff season since 2003.

Ok,let's start it with 100 million.

I doubt it will go up much outside of the contracts like Stanton's that make it increase.

Waiting for the money of new TV deal and ballpark naming right.

But if Loria really want to spend to win then he has a better chance in 2016 than 2017,right ?

And we're the dumb fans who think that money will go towards improving the team LOL

Maybe MLB would force Loria to sell the team if he doesn't spent those money like Arizona did last off-season.

Arizona is a perfect example of why MLB would never force any owner to sell or spend money because the Diamondbacks and others including the 2012 Marlins have shown that spending just to spend doesn't work. There's enough argument to maintain payroll restrictions than to force a team to spend. I know Loria's payroll is an unbelievable low but I'm just saying MLB will never force spending or selling for reasons like that.

Loria will say he is serious about winning.

Then he will spend at a bargain basement level again, going counter to his serious about winning statement.  As per usual.

Probably will see guys traded, tbh.  Gotta account for rise in salaries of some players and get payroll back to the usual pauper levels.

i wouldn't be shocked if they finish in 4th in the NL East if they keep the same team

But I'd also be shocked if they kept the same team intact. They got close enough to contending, they'll attempt to add through trades even if payroll doesn't change.

Agreed

ah subtraction by addition. The marlins way!

Stanton and Fernandez for Trevor Bauer! Gotta upgrade the middle of the rotation by gutting the top of it. And also destroying our offense.

there's really just not that much in the way of FA's this offseason anyway.  you'd have to drastically overpay for any of them because the mediocre ones (pretty much all of them) will command high salaries unworthy of their production....wait a second...maybe that means Loria will spend?  This would be a Dr. Evil type way of justifying not spending again in the future.  Overpay for the crap they know they'll get in FA and then say "see, we tried" and cut ties and be cheap again when legit talent becomes available.

there's plenty of good value OF FAs out there

to sign a FA of any worth (i.e. someone who will actually contribute) you generally have to overpay anyway.  the ones available this will compound that because none of them are true standouts at their position so it will likely make overpayment even more likely.  I personally don't give a shit if they overpay because Loria certainly has more than enough to sign just about anyone he wants with his low payroll.  I'm just saying the typical overpayments will be even worse than usual.

I always hear overpay, but FA contracts have been going up for a long time now.

exactly.

They need to sign an actual proven platoon partner for Bour not this half ass sign a guy who is clearly declining shit (see chris johnson). Steve Peace would be perfect.

I still think they can do ozuna for bauer or paxton. both the mariners and indians could use a cheap club controlled 2-3 WAR ofer.

Then they need to pay for a real CFer and basically pray that the middle IF magically reverts to 2015 form.

The bullpen will be fine when they switch Capps to closer.

You do remember we traded Carter Capps, right

I'm not sure how you get anyone via trade unless you trade guys like Ozuna, who I would prefer not to trade unless there's an amazing return. We have nothing in the farm left, and what we did have was wasted on Cashner/Rodney.

yeah we traded logan morrison for carter capps. Brilliant move by beinfest really

I just don't even give a shit anymore.  Whatever move the Marlins make will be the wrong move.  At least that's how it seems.

the only area this free agency season is going to be weak in is starting pitching.

its why the marlins needed to sign more than one real free agent starter last winter when the market was much more robust, but ya.

That's the definition of Culture of Losing.

i mean what has been their last good move though? Maybe bearclaw for cishek even though shrek has been just as good as claw this year. Even the dee trade is looking suspect at best.
