Admin
I'd like to get Hill, would settle for Nova.
Jokersgoon
like hill but too risky for my liking.

SilverBullet
I think Hill or Nova would make this offseason a success in my eyes. Not one of those guys is Jose Fernandez I know but I think many of us were pretty sure we were getting nothing better than CJ Wilson or Justin Masterson. Getting Volquez and one of the above two would be significant I think.
pollythewog
If volquez was 2/22 hill is probably 3/45 or something silly tho. I'm into Nova. Reunite all the Benedict guys
p
Marlins should stay away from Nova. 64 decent innings down the stretch with the pirates doesn't make him good. Saw a lot of the Yankee games this season were he was starting. Terrible stuff. Especially the fastball. Mediocre K/9 rate. Another Tom Koehler at best. Would hate to see the Marlins buy high on him and be stuck with his contract for years to come.

Erick
I don't want any of those remaining starters.
CYmarlins
I think Hammel would be solid for us. Probably looking for something very similar to what Volquez just got.
SilverBullet
I don't want any of those remaining starters.  You're legitimately ok with relying on Phelps as the 5th starter?
fauowls44
You're legitimately ok with relying on Phelps as the 5th starter? I don't think I would mind Phelps starting if we could add another bullpen arm (Jensen?).
The_Punisher
No Ozuna for Sonny Gray in works? lol
SilverBullet
I love Phelps and what he provides for us. But we've seen year after year that you can never have enough depth. I don't want to rely on Phelps. I want Phelps to be a backup option along with Nicolino, Urena, Esch and whoever else. I want something more significant before Phelps. Opening the season with Phelps in the rotation is probably not the best scenario.
Erick
You're legitimately ok with relying on Phelps as the 5th starter? I'm more okay with it than overpaying another starter. Ivan Nova might get Wei-Yin Chen money for 60 good innings. I don't believe in spending in free agency out of necessity.

pollythewog
I'd rather have Phelps in the bullpen   why? if he maintains the velo boost he could be a very effective starter as his secondary stuff has always been solid
Admin
why? if he maintains the velo boost he could be a very effective starter as his secondary stuff has always been solid Cause I'd rather have a guy like Rich Hill in the rotation and Phelps in the pen, better team overall.

I think the Phelps velo boost (and his injuries before 2016) are being very understated/underrated
Erick
I would actually be more interested in a guy we were rumored to have interest in before...Travis Wood. I think he'd be good for depth. Has experience starting and is very good out of the pen. We could even get creative and do what the Indians did. Limit our starters to two times through the order and use Phelps/Wood for multiple innings out of the pen.  I'm gonna text Mike Hill this now to let him know.
CyggyMarlin
***Breaking News!!!*** knowing that the Marlins fans want a Hill pitching for them, Mike Hill has signed himself to be the team ace with a 10yr/$200M deal. The deal includes a no trade clause.
taiwanmarlin
If we couldn't trade for an ace, than we have no choice and need to go all in to sign HILL !!!
knglover
If we couldn't trade for an ace, than we have no choice and need to go all in to sign HILL !!! This logic is how teams find themselves in last place.  You don't throw money at an unsure thing if a sure thing falls through and expect the same result.  Hill does not deserve Ace money but I am afraid he will get Ace money.  I just hope it isn't from the Marlins
