May 5, 20179 yr Author Tim Beckham beats the Marlins 5-1 Imagine having a SS who hits 2 HR's in one game The season is still young We'll have a 7 game win streak at some point
May 5, 20179 yr This is a joke. The rotation is horrific. Never know what we are going to get and aren't even giving ourselves a chance. We probably average 4 innings a start.
May 5, 20179 yr Author Las Vegas had us winning 76 games back in March. So none of this should be a shock to anyone. RARELY do the Marlins not make it interesting in late August/early September so there's a chance we'll have some hot streaks coming our way.
May 5, 20179 yr Author In Straily's defense, Beckham should have never come to bat and hit the 2-run HR. Real sloppy defense and a bad ball/strike call by the umpire is too blame.
May 5, 20179 yr I thought Beckham owner is before this game but now... Of course, we also left 10 on base and went 1-9 with RISP.
May 5, 20179 yr Mike Hill sure did botch the offseason pitching acquisitions. I know he could never make up for the loss of Jose but holy shit.
May 5, 20179 yr We will meet mets @ flushing. Cespedes and Thor went to DL, but Conforto and other guys have got homers recently. Let's see how our pitchers are dealing with them. Actually I cannot find our momentum in this Citrus Series. Except a 10-run scored game, we were definitely creepy now. We need a player like Aaron Judge to spark others.

We have no player like Aaron Judge…
May 5, 20179 yr We have no player like Aaron Judge… His younger brother. We need one LIKE Judge, not a smaller version... (Can't believe I can actually say that about G)
May 5, 20179 yr Our only and last "advantage" was "health" right now. I don't play fantasy baseball but I think our "ceiling" should be very good in the NL. I think if we take all our position players "ceiling" and add them we could be top 5 in NL. Our "floor" is the bottom though.

May 5, 20179 yr You idiots still find a way to blame Hechavarria. I've invested an unreasonable amount of emotion into this team, and I've spent time reading stupid comments on here. I hope nobody in the Marlins organizations ever reads this forum because the stupidity is blinding. Additionally, I'm glad you mentioned that the season is young because this team is going to do some good things. This is a small slump in April/early May. Nobody will remember this in two weeks. I'm sorry but a starting rotation this bad won't do good things. This rotation full of number 4/5 starters will continue to hold this team back all year. This is not even a 500 team until they get some better pitching.

This is not even a 500 team until they get some better pitching. And there is relly no way of getting it without trading from the core. And the time for that was in the offseason. The only pitching they can get now is more mediocre 4/5 starters.

May 5, 20179 yr Straily is the only guy that seems to have any potential out there - by potential I mean a #3 pitcher if he can get consistent. This is about what I expected out of Volquez and his current ERA is almost on spot whatever it was I predicted before the season went underway. The "Super Pen" has actually started coming together and statistically speaking is one of the better ones in MLB now (Jarlin looks sexy so far too) but Christ in a handbasket the starting rotation is awful, almost 1998 awful. I'm shocked if I see a starter make it out of the 5th inning or even to the 5th inning with less than 80 pitches. Conley had promise and you see glimpses of it from time to time but certainly seems to be trending downward. Chen is just horrific and can't even bunt when called upon (Straily can't hit water if he fell off a boat in the middle of the Atlantic but at least the dude can bunt). I'd honestly rather see Urena in there as a starter over Chen and move Chen to relief for the time being (yeah , not going to happen at that salary and Chen wouldn't like it but eff him). I don't see Urena as being amazing either but I don't see him as worse than Chen and he's not a complete void at the plate. I knew the Stanton contract was awful at the time it was announced and it's really starting to look worse and worse as he gets older. The power is definitely still there, but he's just far too inconsistent. Even for a power hitter he's way too inconsistent and when I say power hitter i'm not talking about a guy who hits 35+hr regularly but bats .220 - he's paid to do way more than that. I don't know if anyone was watching the Rays feed last night but quite a few guys are hitting really well this year with RISP. Seems so odd because they've been struggling to bad the last two weeks. It ultimately boils down to they only hit singles and the occasional HR - just like last year. Single, Single, double play, walk, pop up - wash, rinse, repeat. It's maddening that they just seemingly can't get xbh. I said it yesterday, they have a lot of guys that would fit well on other teams, but their skill sets don't mesh on this team. One final note, in regard to the awful rotation, there really wasn't much out there this offseason either. I know a lot of people said, "well, they should have traded....." but you still need a willing trade partner. I'm sure they did call around quite a bit but good pitching, even a reliable #3 commands a steep price. The market just wasn't there this offseason, and I'm still impressed they somehow got Straily. The lone guy I wish they had picked up was Hellickson but in the grand scheme of things it wouldn't have made that much of a difference either.
May 5, 20179 yr Author You idiots still find a way to blame Hechavarria. Interested to hear what part of my post blames Hechavarria for the loss?
