why are we even sellers?

Featured Replies

Let me change that up a bit. Team is in second place in its division, has 7 games left against #2 wild card team, nobody between it and that team it needs to chase down except the Brewers who are fading.  Even, as to the wild card, with every other non-wildcard team of consequence. So why are we selling?

By the way, I think the Nats next month will do this team in anyway (as if that 4-19 stretch at the beginning of the season didn't already do that). But got to give the Marlins credit for trying to fight back and playing well since the collapse. Of course you can't take away 4-19, but this team has played at a better than 90 win pace apart from that collapse, even with the subpar pitching. Strange year.

Sounds like a typical Marlins year to me.

This team is out of it. Don't be fooled by a nice run against a really shitty team.

thats not the point i obviously know that...but if yr trading ramos for 40FV prospects why? they got a better return for phelps

I don't think the Marlins abysmal financial situation should be overlooked here. There are probably several reasons why the team hasn't been sold yet, but part of it is likely because all of these potential investors have studied the books and realize that the finances are total fucking mess and that Loria is insane for asking $1.2 billion for a team that's hundreds of millions and debt and close to losing another $70-80 million this season.

The problem isn't only Stanton's monster deal, but these albatross contracts like Chen's, Tazawa's, Volquez's, or Ziegler's.

It seems like the Marlins aren't too willing to start dumping players like Stanton, Ozuna, Yelich, or Bour because they want to get the team sold and leave that call up to the new ownership. But players like Ramos, who have sizable contracts and are only controlled through 2018 are clearly expendable and being dumped to try to make the payroll obligations less insane.

i concur penguino we tend to agree unanimously on marlins stuff dawg lol

FYI, the Marlins owe $39 million combined to Chen, Volquez, Ziegler, and Tazawa in 2018.

:hill  shoulda been fired for that shit alone

I do finally like our offense this season, well, when it's not decimated by injuries.  Good news is that bullpens are usually one of the cheaper things to fix overall when compared with offense and starting pitching - in terms of offseason acquisitions they may make this upcoming season.  Bad news is that they need probably the most difficult and more expensive thing to come by as well, quality starting pitching.  Had this team actually had a "super pen" this year, as was their plan - and going into the season it looks pretty damn solid on paper - they would likely be in the WC hunt at this point.  Alas.....

I think what we've also learned is that it's difficult to have a "super pen" when the starters are so bad.

I think a positive that has occurred the past couple weeks is Adam Conley looking like a big league starter again. His demise early in the season was the worst thing that happened to this team. I thought he was going to be our best starter before the year.

Conley went back to his scraggly look - maybe that helps him in some fashion?  Either that, or he's doing meth and that's why he was pitching last night's game faster than probably just about anyone I've ever seen.  But yeah, so far he's actually been pretty decent since they brought him back up and looking more like what I was expecting to see out of him this year.

A Conley, Chen, Volquez, Straily, Urena starting five could have actually worked with our guys in the field if all pieces had been functional. Not to be.

Weren't you the one advocating for the bullpen basically being the fifth starter?

Yeah, probably would've been a better idea than whatever our 5th starter provided. But I'm glad we went with 5 and Tom Koehler gave us a much needed 8 ERA.

At least another one of my ideas was tried and worked out. A short bench to keep Urena on the team.

What this team needs is to raid the FA market for starters and pray one or two fits rolling into next year.

Yeah that sounds like a terrible idea, especially since the payroll is already bloated and the team is losing tons of money.

With the lack of rotation options and arms in the system, the team doesn't really have much option other than to throw cheap one year deals at a problem and if anythign sticks hope its arbitration or team controlled- Think Strailey or Mcgehee like.

Besides that, I don't know of any FA starters that could turn this team into a WS champion. I asked taiwan to name them when he says it endlessly but he never says who.

Who said anything about a WS Champion dipshit? I'm just hoping to see some starting pitchers who can stick around and maybe gain value.

Their option is a firesale and hit the reset button, which they should do.

Spending big in free agency is the last thing they should do.

Maybe I wasn't clear, I'm not thinking about Offseason free agency. I'm thinking more of signing a street free agent or a player who has been cut for the rest of this season, and if they have club control past this year perfect.

This type of pitcher doesn’t exist and if they do they’d be zero help for the team. There’s a reason they’d still be out there if they existed.

Korea/Japan

It's why we need a owner like the Dodgers'.
