August 10, 20188 yr LMAO marlins aren't getting a phillies top 30 prospect Good thing we sent money in the trade. Don’t want to miss out on a good return!
August 10, 20188 yr Oh well, in the long run it won't mean a thing either way for Miami - neither player is/was in the long term plans for this team. How can you possibly write off Mills and his future with this organization literally a few hours after he's acquired? That's ridiculous. As of right now the Marlins are hoping Mills can be of use down the line. I'll admit there's no guarantee, I'm not one of those who tries to convince you that a prospect is a sure thing... but yes at this moment Mills is one of many players in our long term plan.
August 10, 20188 yr Good thing we sent money in the trade. Don’t want to miss out on a good return! You'd have rather they send no money and get literally nothing back?
August 10, 20188 yr "We've been out front in talking about the type of players we feel fit organizationally for us moving forward," Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said. "We like athletes. We like players who are going to impact the game offensively, defensively, [with] base running. Good athletes. With trading Justin, we saw an opportunity to add a quality left-handed, upper-level starting pitcher." “With J.B. in the lineup, we were getting a run or two a game,” Mattingly said in dismissing the loss of home run power Bour provided. “It’s not exactly like we were lighting the world up offensively. It does change the dynamic.” “I think it fits with what the organization’s been talking about as far as the direction we’re going in the future, getting guys that are more athletic, speed,” said Marlins manager Don Mattingly. Bour was not that player. He is a lumbering, defensively awkward slugger who, perhaps more than any other Marlin, suffered from the absences of Giancarlo Stanton, Marcell Ozuna and others who were traded last offseason. As the lone remaining power threat in the diluted lineup, Bour saw fewer pitches to do damage with and, as a result, drew far more walks as pitchers were perfectly willing to give him first, upon which the station-to-station Bour became a one-man logjam on the base paths.
August 10, 20188 yr You'd have rather they send no money and get literally nothing back? Send more money and get one of their top 10 or 20 prospects?
August 10, 20188 yr Send more money and get one of their top 10 or 20 prospects? I highly doubt the 450k extra would have done that.
August 10, 20188 yr but yes at this moment Mills is one of many players in our long term plan. Yeah, they like him enough to pay $450K to acquire him the summer before he's Rule 5 eligible. So there's a pretty high chance he gets added to the 40-man this offseason.
August 10, 20188 yr Send more money and get one of their top 10 or 20 prospects? If that was an option and they didn't go for it then I'm with ya. Not sure if that was on the table though. If Mills was the best they could get then I'm glad they got him. Loria would have just let Bour go for nothing so I'll take this approach better.
August 10, 20188 yr Dude is lifting heavy! Got this from his Instagram page! To be fair, that's only four times as much as I deadlift. Oh, wait....
August 10, 20188 yr Send more than 450K extra? They paid half his deal, 450k was all that was left of it.
August 10, 20188 yr It also is dependent on him being tendered this off-season which was far from a sure thing. I don't think us fans will ever get a definitive answer to this one but if the front office absolutely knew they weren't gonna tender Bour then this was definitely the right move.
August 10, 20188 yr One more thing, I think people forget trades don't start the day they are announced, especially after the trade deadline. The Marlins have probably been trying to trade Bour for weeks and they knew what the potential returns were. If they thought they could get better or more for Bour either before the trade deadline or in the offseason then they wouldn't have done this deal today. There's always more to the behind the scenes in these trades that we don't know.

Hard to demand more when they know you cant go elsewhere. If they had plans to non-tender, this was the only chance to get something for him. Philly may also non-tender him.
August 10, 20188 yr No one has answered my question if they think Bour will actually be any good in 2020 or after.
August 10, 20188 yr My bold prediction : Bour will sign 1-year contract with Tigers after he were non-tendered.
August 10, 20188 yr Why is there a period at the end of the thread title? It's driving me crazy. I noticed that too.
August 10, 20188 yr I love the comments on the mlb story "For a pitcher who may never make it to AA Jacksonville" He was assigned to AA Jacksonville following the trade.
August 10, 20188 yr Y’all are getting on the front office about trading a guy who has 0.4 WAR this year. His career year was 2.2 WAR, i.e. an average starter, and he hasn’t come close to replicating that any other season. He is also going to be 31 during next season. And given his high home run total, it wouldn’t surprise me if he did well in arbitration. What would he get in arbitration, maybe $5+ million (guessing), for likely a 1-2 WAR player? Not really great value, especially for a lower-budget and rebuilding team like the Marlins. He also has just one position. And he seems unlikely to age gracefully given his size. I’m not sure if you can really say that we sold low, so much as you can say that last year was the *only* actual chance to sell high. And that’s because he hasn’t been good any other year. Mills is obviously not a stud prospect, but they got something in return for a player clearly not in the long-term plans. And they threw in cash to get a better prospect. They’ve also been acquiring — rather than sending off — International Free Agency pool money. These are all positive signs.
August 10, 20188 yr Positivity police continue to move the goalposts though. If no $$$ is sent with the player - Fuck Jeter and this cheap team If some $$$ is sent with the player - Fuck Jeter and this cheap team If all of his contract was sent with him - Fuck Jeter and this cheap team. They should've included $5 million in extra money and bought a prospect.
August 11, 20188 yr No one has answered my question if they think Bour will actually be any good in 2020 or after. I predict he will be better than the worst player on our 25 man roster. How’s that for a low bar?
