Realmuto traded to Phillies

Featured Replies

Also, those saying can't believe the Phillies traded all this for only two years of JT don't understand that JT wants to play for a contender, he'll probably sign an extension with the Phillies in a heartbeat and they definitely have the money to offer him what he wants.

Also the phillies keep JT away from the braves a big part of this

I wonder if they have a target in IFA by acquiring money already this early in the year.

that's what I meant earlier, but i can't find a newer list of who is eligible..mlb still has last year's list up

I think it still applies to "last year's" total, no?

There's that Cuban shortstop, Yolbert Sanchez I think is his name.

It'd be crazy creative if they got this guy immediately after this and essentially made Sanchez part of this trade return. What a nice move that would be.

I found this:

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-international-signing-period-opens-july-2/c-283385580

An international player is eligible to sign with a Major League team between July 2 and June 15 of the following year if he is 17, or will turn 17 by the end of the first season of his contract.

So if I'm understanding correctly, this international period last until June 15th?

So he'd get current period IFA money or is it the new period? When did/does the period with Mesa in it end?

depends on when he signs.

there are theories that he will wait it out until july to sign as he can get more money.  so we will see.

Another article from MLB itself:

Each year's international signing period begins July 2 and continues through June 15 of the following year. Under the CBA, international amateurs are defined as follows:

• Player resides outside of the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico and has not been enrolled in high school in any of those locations within the past calendar year.

• Player is at least 16 years of age or will turn 16 years of age prior to Sept. 1 of the current signing period.

So yeah, maybe they have something lined up and needed a bit of extra money to finalize it?
