February 6, 20197 yr The pitcher hitting creates for a hell of a lot more strategy and a significantly more exciting game. It’s idiotic to use the DH in both leagues. Decisions such as having to take out a pitcher in a tight game in the 4th to try to score runs creates one of the most exciting moments in a game. Makes bullpen management that much more important as well. It isn’t just tradition and romanticism. It makes the games more exciting and more fun to watch. The really dumb proposals are the three hitter minimum and the 3 mound visits. Mound visits are also part of strategy and make the game more exciting. Bullpen management is also fun. Only rule I like is the anti-tanking rule that everyone here seems to have a problem with.

One of them is bringing the DH to the NL, which is controversial among some but probably inevitable. It appears more likely to be instituted in 2020 or the following season, in part for logistical reasons. As one source told Martino, "It's hard to tell teams in two weeks they have to construct their team with a DH." We don't have a problem with anti tanking we have a problem with the rule easily penalizing teams that aren't tanking. A team that's really trying can easily lose 90 games twice and suddenly they're penalized when a higher draft pick is actually what they need.

February 6, 20197 yr Well, that's why the proposal also said a 12 pitcher limit. I had not originally seen that, so that definitely changes a bit. I don't see that as being necessary but sure, why not?
February 6, 20197 yr A team that's really trying can easily lose 90 games twice I think one thing they could add perhaps is, if you lose 90+ games twice or three times in a row, but each progressive season the team did improve by at least 3 to 5 games, then they're not penalized.

From my research, here are the teams from 2016-2018 that would be penalized: 2016-2017: Phillies; Braves 2017-2018: White Sox; Tigers All 3 years (2016-2018): Padres; Reds

It's the money not being spent that is their problem with tanking so maybe something where each team has a separate balance for free agency and if it isn't spent its taken from them? "You gotta spend this much money on free agency this offseason, if u choose not to use it then fine but we're taking that money back."

February 7, 20197 yr The way the draft is currently structured it is meant to help struggling teams get better. This new way would penalize tanking and the draft would then be a reward for successful teams right? So then how do struggling teams that AREN'T tanking get better? Is this just forcing them into free agency? That bugs me because yes they want more money spent in free agency but that isn't always proven to actually work. We may get teams getting worse because they're diving into free agency more. You'd be forcing more teams to become the 2012 Marlins.
