Excited is a tough term to throw around watching this team, but how excited are we about Cooper going forward.  Is it still too early to say?  There's an awful lot to like here.   You start to envision which bats might stick around (Cooper, Alfaro, Anderson) by the time we hope the team is an eventual contender and he seems like he could really be an integral piece.

Yeah he has already been a steal in many ways and if he's any bit of an important piece to the potentially next competitive Marlins team then the front office deserves a ton of credit for that trade.

He's been good and the front office definitely deserves credit for picking him up, but he is already 28 so this is pretty much who he is. We can't really expect him to develop much further and become a superstar. And honestly, that's fine because he's already good enough to be an above average regular on a good MLB™ team. He's been a little lucky with balls in play so his .309 batting average might come down a bit, but I think he's at worst a .275 hitter that plays passable defense and should hit about 20 home runs a season. He's a solid piece on a rebuilding team, but not a cornerstone that you build around.

I am in agreement with this. We are now married.

I'm more than fine with keeping Cooper at first base for the foreseeable future, unless Bleday and Misner tear up the minors and make it up quickly and one of them goes to play first [more than likely Misner who has the experience there].

agree with ShitInTheAir. Maybe the power sticks, but the Ks will always be a problem and he's been lucky as hell

the 10% bb rate is really nice and looks legit though something not seen much on this team

"baseball there, bat must swing, ball in play good ball four bad"

-Don Mattingly's hitting advice

Per Fangraphs, he’s been almost as good as Derek Dietrich this year through 90+ games.

DD has been incredibly unlucky oof

I will say Cooper has certainly been a surprise this year, but I think the Fish know that this is probably the peak of his performance for them. Looking at it long term if no one else develops at first for the Marlins( their minor league options are few),  they'll still need to upgrade at first in a couple of years when they are ready to compete.

I don't know man,  I think that he will get better and peak around his 31-32 years old seasons (like Justin Bour) assuming he remains healthy. I definitely think he's capable of being a starter on a playoff version of the marlins. Even if his average regresses to around .270-.280 (which it probably will) I still envision him being a productive hitter with a consistently high slugging %. The team should eventually be fine offensively, specially if we you're getting the production we're hoping to receive from Isan Diaz and Monte Harrison. If they need an upgrade anywhere I think it's shortstop (assuming, they keep Banderson at 3rd)

Bour is currently 31 and doing terrible. His age 29 year [2017] was his best.
