Like, not only did his foot block the bag, but it looked like he wrapped his leg around Villar's arm such that when when he lifted his leg, Villar's arm had to come off the base.

I was furious.

Anyway was a nice comeback effort after deGrom whipped them, and I'm pretty happy if you said we're 2-1 in the series with Sixto pitching today.

this hurts because this the second degrom start where the Marlins should/could have come away with the win. I can't remember if it was his first or second start against us (the one where Aguilar HRd off of him) where he looked pretty average but the Marlins didn't so shit) and then this last night where they hung in, came back...and then pooped the bed (with umpire assistance).  Yeah, getting real tired of the young bats doing nothing, less than even....and I swear Villar always K's when someone is in scoring position...it feels like that's always the case anyway.

But once he left they tied the game and had an opportunity to win so it being against deGrom goes right out the window. Would have been a nice win to snatch from them.

If that stolen base play happens in the playoffs everyone is talking about it this morning.

This is actually the preferred way to play the game. If someone had homered in that situation it would have been awful because that home run would have killed the rally therefore it's better to only score 3 runs when nine batters come to the plate.

So my thinking on this: We can either go about this two ways. (1) We continue as normal, which means Villar goes feet-first next time, hurts McNeil, and then the Mets go feet-first on our guys too. It becomes an arms race, and people get hurt in the process.

Or (2) we propose a fun new rule that if a player is in the basepath, blocking access to the base, they become part of the base. So Villar in the above instance would be safe because McNeil's foot is now part of the base. Same with catcher's at home plate. If the umpire feels you have blocked any access to homeplate, then the player need merely touch your body to now be safe (unless that body part / glove is holding the ball).

I'm sure it'll never happen, but I think that makes for a rather fun game of Twister at the bags, and it would avoid the arms race of crashing into second basemen / shortstops.
