looks like the every day garden variety to me

nah sending out your cleanup hitter is a Holy shit variety.

Sending out some of the other trash they have been utilizing would be more garden variety.

I think this (and the Astudillo DFA) prove that Mattingly's lineups aren't "coming from the front office" like some folks think. That's now a handful of times already this season that the front office has had to take Don Mattingly's key everyday player and made it impossible for him to keep playing that player every day. You don't suddenly option a guy you think is good enough to be the cleanup hitter every game. You don't DFA a guy who you think is worth having in the starting lineup every day. It's honestly super embarrassing for Mattingly at this point.

Right.

Front office is like, oh fuck this shit.

Guess we will have to make sure Don CANT start x player.  Again.

The idea that Kim was dictating Mattingly's lineups was ridiculous to begin with

It's all I ever hear from geniuses on Twitter whenever I complain about Mattingly. They cite his numbers as a player, as if that matters at all, and then say that he doesn't set the lineups anyway.

Donnie made a comment saying you can't make a lineup of just kids, explaining why he still trots out guys like Aguilar and sits Lewin.

Barry Bonds - greatest hitting coach ever!

Then it's even more annoying that Kim and Sherman let Mattingly make those stupid lineups.

Exactly. Kim’s dumb too.

Play the best, who cares if they're kids ... sheesh. Lol

I guess Kim finally realized this fact so she is finally looking to do something about this it appears.

Kim actually said they wanted Lewin to get more ABs yet Donnie doesn't play him so it wouldn't shock me if this is actually an issue behind the scenes. Not that anything comes of it, but it shows Kim and Donnie aren't on the same page, but Kim probably thinks she isn't allowed to tell Donnie how she wants the lineups done.

If Donnie gets canned and Kim gets to hire her choice as a manager we're probably screwed there too. Kim will make a hire by next summer and it'll be someone who doesn't make the lineup until game time when the umps say hey where's your lineup card?

It'll also be yet another excuse to run out our same trash prospects for another season because Kim will need another season to "observe" the team.

Don't hold your breath but imagine if Kim hired her managerial choice then made some trades to bring in her choice of roster moves and then suddenly she picked up the pace because she finally has her team and her manager.

Picked up the pace doesn't necessarily mean a better team though either if she's delusional to the point she somehow doesn't realize who guys like "30HRs a year Avi!" and "high obp% machine Soler" are.  I will forever look to that as a defining moment for her - even moreso than the whole "i didn't call anyone" at the deadline - to not even know your own players is bizarre.

"Her" team makes me think it'll be another season of  her sitting back to observe the younger guys playing to try again after the '23 season.  I really feel like that's where all this is headed once Don is gone - not exaggerating either.  And when I say to "try" again after the '23 season I mean sign more low obp% big power guys because Don clearly indicated those sort of guys are not his preferred players here a few weeks back so I definitely feel that's more of Kim's preferred player profile.
