I really hate them all. I would NOT have bought into Amazon's Alexa world had I known how snoop-ish they are overall but....too late now. For the few things I have with Google built into it I find it works far better than Alexa and with way less advertising

Alexa listens but she would tell me I'm boring if she was smarter. I really give her nothing interesting to hear.

I don't use any of them.

 

Occasionally I'll use Siri because it's there on my phone if my hands are full, but in general I don't see a point for it.

Yeah, I never use a personal assistant. I’m too old fashioned for that. Even though I’m younger than 35. 😂

 

If I want to know what is 350/13, I will go to the calculator app.

If I want to find out how old Chuck Norris is, I will just search on a search engine. I know that the assistants can find me the answer faster. But I’m so used to looking up stuff myself, especially on a PC, that it carried over to phone. 😂

Hahaha. Yeah. I feel like being able to look stuff up, and actually find the right answer, is an underrated skill to have.

People might think like “Oh, anybody can look something up on Google and find the answer.” But I have seen so many people that will search something and just click on the top result and assume it’s correct without paying attention. Especially when they’re click on sponsored ads in the search results.

Also, I’ve noticed, at least with my nieces and nephews, they will be quick to ask Siri or Alexa for questions. Of course that’s great, in these times we live in that everyone has access to instant information from a robot voice assistant. I’m not that much older than you, but still I’m old enough to remember like the mid 90’s when if you wanted the answer to a question you had to get the big encyclopedia book or dictionary or even go to the library. So younger people growing up right now have it so good as far as having the answer to any question almost, just need to ask Siri or Ok Google or Alexa.

But also it takes away some of the fun, I think. Especially when I tell my niece a random interesting fact and instead of her being like “oh that’s cool” they instantly fact check me and ask Siri about it to make sure I’m telling them the truth. Makes me doubt myself too much. 😂😂😂😂😂

Having to do entire research papers from just a library of books must have sucked.  At least we had the "approved academic sources" online search thing.

Hahaha. I was talking like Mid 90’s when I was like 6-7 years old. 🤣 Of course we had AOL on the PC back then. But it wasn’t like I could just hop on the AOL dial up at age 7 to find out about Tigers. Had to get that tiger book from the library.

 

Would have been useful at the time though to fact check stuff. Like I learned from watching Looney Tunes that cats have 9 lives. But I literally believed it. So once I heard about a cat that had died and I said to my dad, he probably only has like 5 lives left.. My Dad has to tell me the truth, like “nope, that cat’s gone.” 😂

 

I was so disappointed that Sylvester lied to me.

Oh I know, I was just saying in general that having to use books for all research must've been difficult because you'd have been limited to whatever your local libraries had.

My little black book is mine.

Also research papers actually going to libraries was both fun and maddening.

But you could see some cute women at times working in the library and if you knew how to find things, it could prove to at least get one foot in the door.

Afterall, even the cute chicks in college had to do the basic research papers!  (hooray mandatory classes)

I'm heavily invested in the Google Home ecosystem. I have one version of pretty much all their products except maybe the earbuds and the new watch (coming soon). I'm a big smart home nerd, and aside from a more involved DIY system like HomeKit, GH speakers paired with SmartThings is second to none.
