Who is the assistant hitting coach

Hitting coaches instruct players on matters related to hitting, such as batting mechanics, plate discipline and preparation. An assistant hitting coach is a second in command to the hitting coach and helps with the same duties.

Oh thanks

John Mabry is the real answer.

I honestly don't know what to think about Brant Brown.

By all accounts he's a hard worker with a great approach and the players say that he does the job well. The results just haven't come obviously but I'm not convinced that another coach could do better. I'd say keep him around and see if he can get them better next season but I don't think I'd be upset if they moved on either.

Usually someone takes the fall as a scapegoat when things crash and burn so I'd assume it'll be him if anyone goes. Then again, they still exceeded the original expectations so maybe all survive.

Marlins are once again 28th in the league in runs with arguably a much better lineup than last year.

Let's be real here: this isn't saying much at all.

This lineup still sucks.

And hitting coach is a way "easier" scapegoat than manager.

Brant Brown.. lol. I'll never forget that error he made on the cubs. Surprised he never changed his name

How about this for a luke-warm take?

Brant Brown succeeded in getting the Marlins to make more and better contact but Skip torpedoed his efforts by refusing to let guys steal bags and go in motion more often.

Well the more they lose, the less they will have succeeded the original expectations.  This team could still finish 10 below .500 and then its pretty much at expectations..

I honestly don’t believe this is the 28th best lineup in the league. It seems like it should be top 20?

i think the fact this team never runs is baffling but that’s a skip thing

He is a LaRussa pupil.  Did Tony let his guys run? I forget.

Perhaps. I guess the question is whether or not we can blame Brown for guys like Garcia, Wendle, Stallings and Segura (even though he's gone now) massively underachieving. Gurriel sucked in 2022 as well, so it's not like he fell off as soon as he got here. DLC is probably a fourth OF (or at least a guy who should be hiding in a better lineup if he's going to start). Jazz just can't stay healthy and I think a lot of his struggles have to do with his own mental hurdles.

I don't know. Even if Brown deserves some blame, the fact of the matter is that the FO has done a horrendous job putting this offense together. Soler is the only real power bat. Nobody walks. Too many guys strike out (regardless of what analytics try to say, strikeouts do matter).

And to be fair, outside of Jazz and Berti, who here really has the speed to steal bases?

The real problem is roster construction. If the FO doesn't sign a couple of legitimate bats this offseason (and I mean legitimate; not signing reclamation projects and once-great hitters like JD Martinez and hoping they regain their form from five years ago, which we know is what they'll probably do), 2024 is going to be another difficult year to watch this offense.

They’re actually way above average at not striking out. 5th best k rate in the league! I think they’re like 19th or 20th in ops too. They are 28th in ISO and 28th in walks.

I think the more pressing issue is the lack of walks and groundball approach, both seem like an actual organizational philosophy to me but who knows. Starting wendle every day is pretty ridiculous tho

It's largely in part of the whole station-to-station approach on the bases. Some guys like Berti and Jazz are burners who can just flat out steal but guys who have even just slightly above average speed can still steal if they're actually paying attention and learn how to get a good lead and read a pitcher. Hell, even work some more hit and runs into the system but nope. Almost zero run game when baseball literally changed this year to encourage more running.

I feel lack of running has hurt Brant's approach with our guys and a large chunk of that rests squarely on Skip's shoulders with the rest falling on Ng in not getting some guys with more speed in the offseason (or calling up guys like Edwards in season).

This new group has seemingly ignored the speed and gap power identify a team playing in this park had needed for ages and they continue to do so year after year.

Whoops. I saw the team rankings for Ks and saw the Marlins fifth and automatically assumed it meant they had the fifth-most strikeouts. Lol. My mistake.
