My parents told me extra cheese was a scam, that you were paying more money for a topping that they might not even put on and that you couldn't actually prove you got.

Looking back, I can argue that because sometimes it's very clear when you've got more cheese but this has been ingrained in my mind forever and I would never order extra cheese, just an unnecessary topping for me. It's now to the point where I think too much cheese would be gross.

With all that said, I haven't had a true extra cheese pizza in so long that I'd probably try one now if you offered it to me. Extra greasy pizza now ruins my stomach though so I might just decline it altogether. I can no longer eat a shit load of pizza like I used to. This is the only food that can affect my stomach, everything else I can eat just fine.

you can tell when a place adds extra cheese and when it doesn't. if you order it and they clearly didn't you can't "prove it" per se but you can just avoid ordering from there going forward.

also, if the pizza is baked right, extra cheese does not mean it's extra greasy.  got to find a joint that knows how to bake a pie properly as well.

Nah I wasn't actually saying the extra cheese means greasy pizza. Just kinda ran off on a tangent there because Pizza Hut specifically now gives me explosive diarrhea if I eat "enough to get full". It has happened every time for the last several times I've eaten it so I know for sure it's that. Now I avoid Pizza hut entirely but if it's the only thing around I'll only eat 2 small slices (because it still tastes good) and then I'll fill up with something else on the side. Never eating 5-6 slices of that crap again  

 

Have we ever done a thread about pizza toppings? Seems like a great thread idea. I'm sure some people here put veggie nuggets, Chinese brown sauce, and swamp ass sweat on their pizzas.

Pizza Hut is literally the worst pizza i can think of. It's worse than Dominos, Little Caesars, Papa Johns, and every other chain I can think of loL.  Their sauce is so alien. it's this weirdly dark red paste-like substance that's not even a sauce.  If you've ever bought a can of tomato paste to mix into a DIY pasta sauce that's EXACTLY what pizza hut "sauce" looks like. 

The Hut was the bomb back in the late 80s though, or at least I remember it that way when we had that Book-It program and you could get your free personal pan pizza for reading books.  The pan pizzas actually had crispy edges on them back them too.

Anyway, Pizza Hut sucks and is not worth any calories you get from it lol

 

Yea Pizza Hut seemed amazing as a kid. My family didn't get it often so I'd only have it once in a while or at a friend's house or at a birthday party so it felt like a big deal whenever I had it. I always called it my favorite as a kid probably cuz it was like a rarity to me. Growing up it either got worse or I realized it was never good so it's no biggie now but I can't turn down a bite or two to get the taste for nostalgia purposes. 

As far as the other chains, Domino's has always been bland to me. I might enjoy Papa John's the best but my wife doesn't like it and my son loves Little Caesars so we rarely get Papa Johns anymore. So with Little Caesars since they enjoy that and it's obviously cheaper too we get that the most and while you can tell it's not the greatest, a really fresh and well made Little Caesars pizza can be sooo delicious but it's very much hit or miss. Little Caesars is generally mid but can feel like #1 if you get it just right.

With that said, I know all those places are shit compared to a great real pizzeria but, you know, family and money means you give in to the chain pizzas more often than you'd like to.

There's 3 pizzerias around me and I love them all. Sometimes we have a hard time picking which to get.

yeah the Hut was like "The" pizza to get as a kid. it was definitely a treat. you gotta wonder if it really was as good as you remember or if it's just a memory during a time of no bills and obligations and being rewarded with a rare treat. 

But with most things being turned to shit (hello Quaker chewy granola bars) since the 90's I'm betting it actually did taste a LOT better back then. 

If I go to a chain pizzeria it's almost always Hungry Howies for me.  When they get it just right. Damn that's some foine eatin'

Pizza Hut is gross.

Domino's I usually get the hand made pan crust (not the standard stuff) or whatever they call it.

Papa Johns I order from ocassionally.

 

Usually I get stuff from a local place, called Times Square Pizza, which I always thought was a nod to NY......but the plaza it's in is actually called Times Square lol.

Locally, it's Frankie's hands down. No parm.

Chain, I like Pizza Hut and Little C's.

There's a great place in Bonita Springs called Leoni's. Love that as well.

Pizza good.

Extra cheese. Mushroom. Sometimes green pepper. Sometimes pepperoni. Always delicious.

I worked for PJs for a couple of years as a young man many moons ago. Was my first real job. I think that back in those days, PJs was probably the best out of the big three national chains. That was back when Domino’s crust literally tasted like cardboard. Pizza Hut crust is weird and greasy sometimes.

At PJs, we had better ingredients and thus better pizza.* 😂

 

Now a days I feel like PJ quality it not as good as it once was.. or at least can be hit or miss depending on the location. Dominos changed their crust recipe in the early 2010s I believe and added some spices and other seasonings to it and it vastly improved the pizzas. I would say now out of the three, my personal favorite might get a slight edge to PJ but with Domino’s not far behind and actually I would say I eat more Domino’s overall as they usually tend to have better promotions. 😂

As @SirFishFan pointed out about Dominos they did greatly improve both their sauce and crust about 10-15yrs back and ran a pretty big campaign to make sure people knew their old pizza was pretty rank and they made an effort to improve (and did).

It was probably also around this time Pizza Hut realized their core base didn't care either way and just started using a bunch of wonder bread compressed into a ring while continuing to work through the same can of tomato paste they've been using since the 70s.

I have a radio morning show I listen to where they have an interactive chat of hundreds of people, and the pizza topic comes up from time to time......just about everyone in there hates Pizza hut too
