April 18, 20242 yr Why are we still getting excited about the Cuban prospects? Only like 5% of them have actually gone on to be successful.

I’ve very rarely or never seen one baseball player join a team and single handedly brought them to a WS win. How many WS did the Angels win with Trout? Ohtani? Some could say that if the Dodgers win the WS series this year than it was because of Ohtani to which I say that the Dodgers were already a WS caliber team and adding Shohei was just the icing on top but the Dodgers would be more than capable of making and winning the WS already on their own. Add Shohei to the Marlins current roster and they are maybe 8-8.. but that would be only because Shohei would be pitching instead of Puk. However is Shohei was only batting and not pitching this same Marlins team would be like maybe 6-12 at best. Won’t be winning games with guys like Bender and Sixto out there blowing leads all the time. So yeah.. maybe I’m grumpy about this whole situation.. but honestly worrying about prospects in baseball is stupid. This ain’t basketball where drafting Dwayne Wade or football where drafting Tua will instantly change the team dynamic. Shut the Fuck up. This post is almost 1/3 the length of a typical @MarlinsLou post.

Where are you getting that % from? I'm sure it's right in line with the % of players from other foreign countries. I know Victor Victor left a bad impression but Mesa Jr. Is a legit prospect. Also, you have the likes of Adolis Garcia , Randy Arrozarena, Yordan Alvarez, and Luis Robert playing in the majors now. Not to mention that Jose Fernandez was one of the best and most popular Marlin players ever.

Think of the percentage overall who go from high school to even a day in MLB.

Dayan Viciedo? The mesa brothers (yes, I’m willing the bump the younger one in too). And also I’m not talking about people with Cuban heritage who lived and went to high school in the US. I’m talking about the Cubans with these fuckin movie trailers like this kid. Also, before anyone says some shit, I’m Cuban lol

Have you been following this team since last year? There's nothing else to get excited about, so we look for any glimmer of hope lol.

I asked where you got that # from and that I'm willing to bet that the success rate is probably in line with the success rate of players from other foreign countries. Also, Jose Fernandez wasn't of Cuban heritage like you or I. He was born and raised on the island. He did attend high school in the US. As to your point on they're hype videos. Not only is Cuba a communist country controlled by a dictator, but there's also an embargo. Scouts have a hard time getting information. It's not like the DR for example where every team has an academy. Other than international tournaments, it's hard to scout players on the island.

Yeah, I wasn't refuting the claim of 5%. I understand how difficult it is to make it to the show. I just asked where he got it from. My only point is that the success rate is probably in line with players from other foreign countries. His post comes across as if there's no point in signing players from Cuba. I 💯% disagree with that. Speaking of Cuba born players, both Victor Mesa Jr. and Yiddi Cappe have started the season on fire! Mesa is 22 in AAA and Cappe is 21 in high A. 🫰

And as someone bringing up a young player myself, power to the young man. But I’m saying, how much longer are we supposed to believe this hype about these videos? Throw his ass in a PG tournament and see how he does against the Noble Meyers and Ethan Holidays for direct comparison before you throw any money at him. 🤷🏻♂️
