If the Marlins only win 47 games in 2025 but have a closer with 15 saves by the all star break that would be the most impressive thing. 😂

Assuming the Marlins would have around a 22-74 record by then and with probably how many bullpen games they might have I could picture saves being spread out with multiple people having like 2-4 each. But well let’s get Fucher in the All Star Game before he’s traded!

I still don't understand why we've made zero attempt to sign trade deadline pieces either. I still see no plan aside from trudge along at horrid levels and pocket the money.

aka as usual, the plan is that everything (57 different items) must go right to have a chance at being just ok.

Good job Bendix!

Most of these points are pretty standard for a small market rebuild: accumulate prospects, promote them, make a few key signings, proactive extensions, continue to draft well to keep the train rolling. I expected nothing less than this. I guess what I’m saying is Bendix’s clock starts in August.

August seems pretty fair really will agree with that

Stowers and mervis made the team, Gillespie and junk are in the rotation and their third game of the year is a bullpen game. They are actively trying to lose as many games as possible this year. There is no way in heck this teams losses doesn’t start with a 1

19 losses

... okay maybe.

But then the team finds itself and loses just 92 on the year. 2006 type team but slightly worse.

Bro.. I appreciate the optimism but.. no.. not even a 2006 team but slightly worse here.

Yes, 2006 was very unproven going into the season and we really had no idea how things were going to turn out with Hanley and Uggla and Mike Jacobs and Willingham etc as well as the rotation with JJ, Nolasco, Anibal Sanchez etc.

But don’t forget that year the Marlins still had Miguel Cabrera and D-Train who just came off a 22 win season in 2005. Also the bench was stronger than this current team. With Wes Helms, Amezega and Cody Ross. Not to mention a strong closer in Borowski and veteran relief pitcher Herges. So while it was definitely unproven going into the year. It wasn’t as barebones overall as this season will be. Because we at least had some idea that Hanley was going to have a chance to be a potential star player from his time in the Red Sox farm system and we kind of knew a little bit about Mike Jacobs from the Mets and Olivo etc.

I wasn’t a Marlins fan in 1998 but from what I know about that year.. it seems closer to a 2025 Marlins vibe than 2006 does.

Actually if you want to get specific with a comparison just look to last season when the Marlins finished 62-100.. and that was with Burger, Bell and Jazz for most of the season as well as Arraez for the first month and the Marlins finished the season with a lot of the same players that will be full time players in 2025.

Now granted you can make the case that Sandy was out last season and that affected things. Fair point. However, back in 2022 when Sandy won the CY Young award and had an amazing season, the Marlins still finished the year 69-93. Showing that there’s only so much that Sandy can do on his own to help the team.

So with all that in consideration and seeing how last year’s team finished 62-100 even with playing most of the season with Bell, Burger and Jazz and even though Sandy returning and some of the new acquisitions will offset some of the players that left. I still think the team might be slightly worse overall than last year when they lost 100 games.

With everything in perspective, my prediction of 53-109 stands. I hope I am wrong.

(No, @Michael I don’t want to hear “you are wrong. 89 losses”.)

😂

Thought you’d have a better team record! If bozo really gets that many starts to lose so many games 😕

Just because I am optimistic about the future doesn't mean I'm overly optimistic about this season. It should be about developing the young guys and without Braxton, Eury, Eddy, Weathers and Nardi the pitching is going to be a struggle. I just hope they give the prospects some time on the mound in the majors instead of the no-hoper computer generated guys we threw out there last year. With Jesus and Norby out as well for at least the first month it is going to be a struggle. Honestly, take away Sandy and our AAA team in Jacksonville might actually be better than our major league squad. The hope is we can lose less than 100 and get a solid half-season from our prospects coming up in the second half. They won't all shake out but if we can hit on 1/3 to 1/2 of them we should have a good foundation for our future.

Believe it or not I pretty much i agree with you.

I actually tend to agree with this. Shame the staff is so bad.

The best lineup the Marlins have had since Sherman took over?

Everyone’s opinion is valid of course. But come on.. let’s talk about that September of 2023 lineup...

C - Nick Fortes

1B - Josh Bell

2B - Luis Arraez

SS - Garrett Hampson

3B - Jake Burger

LF - DLC

CF - Jazz Chisholm

RF - Jesus Sanchez

DH - Jorge Soler

Bench - Gurriel, Jon Berti, Garrett Hampson, Stallings, Wendle.

That basic lineup, which of course switched around a lot with Hampson getting a lot of playing time that month in the outfield and SS went 16-10 in Sep of 2023 and of course made the playoffs as we all know. And even with some duds in there like Stallings and Wendle getting playing time.. I don’t think the current lineup is even close.

I mean I absolutely appreciate the guy’s optimism for the upcoming season and respect his opinion. But come on, best lineup since Sherman took over? 😂

If the current starting lineup in 2025 with Sanchez and Norby healthy has a 16-10 or better month then I will be the first to admit it.

I mean I could even make an argument about the 2018 lineup that had JT Realmuto, Starlin Castro, Bour, Dietrich, Rojas, BA, and Martin Prado etc as being an overall better lineup than 2025.

It’s just one random guy on twitter making an opinion and I’m just one random guy on MB.com making my opinion. So who cares?

No. None of this moving goalpost BS.

They hired him in Nov of '23. But his clock doesn't start until August of '25? Nah. F that.

Let's go through your list.....

Accumulate prospects - he accumulated something I guess.....

Promote them.....I guess?

Make a few key signings. Nope.

Proactive extensions. Nope.

Draft well......eh, questionable, but I'll give you that this takes time to evaluate.

If they're truly trying to accumulate prospects and accelerate the process, they'd be making some more impactful FA trade deadline type signings, especially for some of these players that linger on the market. Like we see most other teams do when rebuilding. But Bruce won't even approve that. So instead, we trot out computer generated players and keep the status quo of being terrible.

Lmao sandy is so traded https://x.com/isaacazout/status/1904932467141706008?s=46

Manager Clayton McCullough on the trade rumors regarding Sandy: “We just try to avoid the outside noise. There’s nothing we can do about that. Sandy will pitch for us on Opening Day and all the talk and speculation surrounding that is outside of our control and his.”

I know right. Guess how easy it would be for the owner or front office to go and make a definitive statement that “Sandy will not be traded in 2025.” And that would settle the issue once and for all.

But no, got to keep an ear out for all offers available. You know thinking about the future success of the team and stuff. 😂

Rojas is a real piece of trash

IMG_9729.png

That’s a random tidbit. But yeah idk Rojas always gave the impression to me of someone a little too big for his britches. Honestly he wasn’t talented or experienced enough to be that guy who self appoints himself a “club house leader” and decided it was his job to teach Jazz some humility.

Doesn’t mean that the clubhouse leader has to be a great player or anything. It could even be a veteran who’s past their prime years but just having that presence around makes them a natural clubhouse leader like Lenny Harris in 03 or Wes Helms in 06 or even someone like Maybin, Martin Prado or Curtis Granderson.

I can’t imagine any of those guys cutting up Jazz shoes with sissors to put him in his place. 😂

Anyways.. glad all those players are gone! Had to make room for a new group of players who will gidp with the bases loaded and one out when down by 2 in the 8th inning.

I assumed opening day lineups so take out Bell and Burger, but yeah you’re probably right. Pre opening day optimism makes me say stupid things sometimes

Don’t get too hooked on the clock comment, it’s a joke from the Ng days. And I’m not moving any goalposts. I was fine with Bendix coming in and rebuilding. My point is that starting in August and especially into 2026 I expect a competitive/fun team with the core built around Bendix-acquired prospects, draft picks, FA signings plus Edwards and Sandy. Anything less and his rebuild will officially move into disappointment territory at best, failure at worst.
